I'm finally going to break down and purchase a cd-rw drive. I haven't figured out which one to buy yet. Should I look for a particular brand? I also read, that some come with better software bundles. I don't want to get a cheap one, but I also don't want to spend over $200. Thanks!

Well the brand that I hear the most praise about is the Plextor burners... Ive heard nuthin but good about them really overall...

check out their homepage - Plextor (http://www.plextor.com/english/products/16_10_40A.html) - There... its a 16x10x40x drive and they have ti listed at only $189.00... wow... Im saying only!~!wtf is wrong with me???

Ah well... theres a good one there for yea...

I personally have a Sony and it has some troubles with some software (like ISO's) but works great otherwise...

Hope that helps...

I just ordered a Lite On 24-10-40 burner yesterday for around $100 Saturday. I'm not sure of the software bundle that comes with it though. I plan to buy Nero Burning ROM 5.5 though as I've heard good things about that program. This Lite On drive does have the burn-proof technology, just like the Plextor drives. Plextor does make some real good drives though. I figured I'd give the Lite On a try and see how good they are.

I have one of the TDK ones. The 16x10x32. It is a great drive. I have never had a bad CD. It comes with Nero (some of the best recording software I have ever heard of) and I know that the one I have is pretty cheap now, they also have a 24x10x40 out that they sell at Costco for around $200 with a 50 pack of CD-R's. You might want to look into that. It also has a blue tray so it looks kinda funky in a regular whitish computer. Just my thoughts.

I have that same drive w/ Nero, and they are both top-notch. I would recommend them any day.

There have been some problems with higher speed burners reading or writing to the edge of the disk. The TDK Velocd is a great Burner as is the Plextor. The most important thing is a large buffer and/or BurnProof.

My BusLink burner is really a Liteon and I spent $69 on it new. I use Nero and Easy CD Creator 5.0 as well as Clone CD. Its a matter of using the strengths of each software package. I use the Nero or Clone CD to make (backup :-D) copies of games and creator for making music cds from mp3s. I have on occasion made coasters but a buddy uses a plextor and says he'll burn a frisbee once in a while too. The best setup is using two plextors for disc to disc copying w/o an iso file.

I love my TDK. I have not been able to burn on coaster yet and believe me I've tried.
