i have to overclock to install win98se wats up

i have to overclock to install win98se wats up?
why do i have to do this ?
when i am at stock speed i get nothing but errors
but when i overclock to a certain fsb and multi. it will install win98se

Hmm, give us some more specs. That's a pretty nutty (you don't have to pardon the pun if you don't want to) problem, but there's gotta be a logical explanation...right?

Did you overclock in the past with this operating system? Overclocking can lead to corruption to system files.
