View Full Version : Games that maximize use of dual-core CPUs?
Is there a list of games that make good use of dual core cpus (particularly C2D)?
ie. games that are "significantly" helped by a dual-core processor as a result of being moderately/heavily multi-threaded

Flight Simulator X is one... Quake 4 (with the latest patches) is another. I think maybe HL2?

Call of Duty 2 and TES Oblivion. A lot of the other Xbox 360 -> PC ports are probably multithreaded also, so Just Cause, Scarface, Splinter Cell: Double Agent and Test Drive Unlimited might be good bets too.
AFAIK the source engine isn't multithreaded, so HL2 and CS:S aren't, but valve keep releasing updates so who knows when it might be.

Supreme Commander!!! :) Actually that can put quad core to good use as well.
Also HL2 will be mutli-threaded as well soon with the EP2 release.
More on the source engine and quad-cores and random hyperexpensive Intel hardware in the following article.
But yes, the performance boost is notable.

Looked into http://packages.ubuntulinux.org/dapper/source/hotkey-setup perhaps?

I can't wait for that, I hope it really helps out with the physics making the game chug (like when you throw a nade into the market on italy)

Oblivion
Oblivion isn't really multi-threaded unless it was added in a patch. Most I saw out of it was using 10% more on the second core.
