Hi there;

I am not sure if this is the right place for this thread, as I am unsure if my problem is software/hardware

Anyway, the problem I am having is with running games with my crossfire setup

I have:
Radeon X1900XT - slave
Radeon X1900 - Crossfire Edition - master
amd 3500+ 64bit
2GB geil RAM
MSi Mobo RD480 Neo2
Antec modular PSU 550W

Crossfire is enabled and normal windows display works fine.

the problem is that when ever I try to play a game, does not matter what one, the screen jumps between the game and a black screen.

It is not quick flickering, about 1 - 2 seconds between each flash.

I have tried everything I can think of, even re-installed windows to see if it was something conflicting with it, I now only have oine game installed, I am still getting the problem.

Also, on the screen is displayed a "Input not supported" box, the monitor is an Acer AL 1951.

The slave card works on it's own, I have not tried the mastercard on its own... will do this tonight unless someone may know what is causing this??!!

Somebody pls help me as this is doing my swede in!!! :bang head

Ok.... tested the cards singularly, they work fine!!!

Decided it could be a power issue, so went and borrowed a jeantech 700W PSU disigned for SLi/Crossfire, it even tells me the power usage of the system which is 110W at this precise moment.

I had an email from ATi saying I should set the Alternate DVi opeation mode on, I have tried to do this but it will not stay checked, when I apply the change it just unchecked itself!!

I am going nuts here......

Anybody able to throw any light on the situation???

It even does this if I turn Crossfire off!!!

Leaving both cards in, but turn off CrossFire!!!

OMG What is going on... someone pls help me!!

i would try the new psu . 550watts sounds low for a 1900cf setup.

could just be a simple setting also in your video software or setup options...

keep diggin i'm sure you'll be able to figure it out.

I tried a new power source, 700watt, which is crossfire compliant....

No luck!!!

I am so confused!!!

Please, try to edit your posts, thread is a PITA

If the compositing engine is bad, then the single card will work, but not the crossfire mode

Found another couple of guys having similar problems (input not supported) with an Acer monitor, can you try another one preferrably CRT? What resolution are you running at? Do you have the monitor drivers installed? Not having the option to enable Alternate DVI Operation sounds like it is the source of the problem. Also I would advise trying another PSU as well, I have never heard of this brand and it is questionable if it is adequate even if they say it is.

This (https://support.ati.com/ics/support/default.asp?deptID=894&task=knowledge) may help ;)

Will try it with a crt monitor today, as for the PSU, I have read many reviews and they all say this is a good PSU.

I have been in contact with ATi support.... They just keep fobbing me off with driver issues!!

^^ How can I tell if this is the case??
I have already had to RMA one card for it going wrong.... which led me to believe it could be a motherboard issue??

This is doing my head in!!

Has anyone seen the vids??

I understand the frusteration. I am also having issues with crossfire, not the same as yours, but still frusterating.

I have 2 Radeon X1950XTX cards, one is a xfire edition (master), and other other is a regular (slave).

My issue is, I can't get crossfire enabled at all. The moment I check the box for crossfire, my screen freezes up. I have the latest drivers, 6.10. I've formated a couple times to see if that was the issue as well. This system is pretty new, built it about a week ago. I read in this thread that there are monitor drivers? I will try this when I get home, but doubt it will solve the issue. Anyways hang in there man, and keep pestering ATI, until the give in and help us guys out.

Try swapping the cards around and check to make sure your Y-connect crossfire cable for the moniter is pluged in properly to both boards. I had similar problems when i started playiung with crossfire. Now the system runs bullit proof. Just trying to help.

I have tried the cards singularly, I have made sure the cable is firmly plugged in, and connected to the correct connectors.

In the primary slot on the slave card, and the crossfire connection on the mastercard!!!

Yea I'm still having issues as well, I'm about to get rid of my cards, and wait for the nVidia 8800 card or get 2 7950's in SLI. 8 days and still no solution from ATI, and I've tried everything mentioned for me to try.

So.....

To recap,
I format the machine
I replaced the PSU
I then tried the cards singularly
I then changed the RAM
I tried the latest mobo drivers
ATi Drivers
Old Drivers
Have a new mobo, just installing windows on it.... I will get to you if it fixes my problem

Did you try another monitor or look at the ATI knowledge base article I posted?

Just tried it on the same monitor through the analog connector rather than the DVi Connector.... the chuffing thing worked!!!!

Is there a list of supported monitors anywhere???

^^ As this appears to be my problem!?!?

I tried this on a friends Monitor, old 17" TFT iiyama, works fine!!!

Thought, ok, it is a problem with my monitor.....

I went and purchased a Samsung SyncMaster 205BW WideScreen.....

I get the same problem!!!!

Does anyone know if it could be a problem with the DVi output on the Sapphire cards???? I do not understand why it would work using the analogue connector and not the DVi and why it work on my friends old TFT with DVi and not mine?>!>!

God this is really frustrating?!

Dude.... Had the EXACT same issue as you with my 1951b... No fix for it all. It's the reason why I'm gettting rid of the Crossfire card. Card is 100% A O.K but that monitor is what causes the issues...

****ed me off to no end for months....

I don't understand??>?>

How can it work with some monitors, and not others~?!

Does anyone know which monitor it does work with>>??

Save me buying all the monitors under the sun!?!?

I had a reply from Sapphire, the manufacturer of the cards:

Try the latest Catalyst so that you are runing Crossfire in software mode (no interlink cables) and use the X1900XTX in the master slot. Latest driver available here:

Catalyst 6-11 Drivers (http://www.sapphiretech.com/customers/drivers/Cat%206.11%20(v.8.31)/6-11-aib_xp-2k-xp64_dd_ccc_wdm_37617.exe)

However, this has had no effect, as I cannot get it to run in software mode, it still requests the cable be attached??!!

^^ Has anyone ever heard of running Crossfire in this way??

And doesn't this kind of defeat the objective ATi were trying to achieve over nVidia by making it hardware run, instead of software controlled??!!

^^ Anyone have any thoughts on this???
