locked hard drives!!!

Haveing a problem........when i try to scandisk or defragment i
i get message.."cannot access disk utility locked hard drives"
How do i "unlock" them?

wellll.......i did a little more diggin in safe mode.
in the performance tab it says drive a using ms dos compatability
mode file system.
it says that for drive c and d also (both are hard drives)
but it only tels me this in safe mode about c and d drives......
im really stumped!!!!!
any ideas ?
the mbrworks won't do it without deleting hard drive

What motherboard is this?

If it's a VIA chipset have you installed the 4-in-1 drivers? Sounds like the controller drivers aren't installed correctly.
