View Full Version : Something better than Arctic Silver Adhesive???

Hi guys and gals,

I'm trying to improve the cooling ability of my OCZ Dominator cooler by adding a copperplate to the HS/F's base. But know I wonder if I should use my Arctic Silver epoxy or not to bond it together!!!! I know that the Silver particles form a thin layer, like a foil. But my Dominator and the copperplate are lapped and polished, so that they are nearly perfectly plane!! If you know a better way to bond the copperplate to the HS, let me know. I think I would need an adhesive, that is more liquid than Arctic Silver without such "big" particles, so that there's direct contact between the copper and the aluminium, where they're both perfectly plane and the adhesive's only where needed(in the spots where it's not perf. plane).

Thanks in advance

Ingo

Try Arctic Alumina made by the same company

You think Arctic Alumina is fine enough. Aren't there these "big" particles anymore. Is it thinner than AS and AS2 and AS adhesive?? Where can I find a good review??? And how do you think should I bond it together then??? With some drops of superglue in the corners??

Answers please! :D

I don't know exactly what size the silver particles are, but I don't think they are bigger than the imperfections in the surfaces you are bonding together. Even if you have a mirror like finish, its still not a perfect surface.

As for bonding the two pieces, you can either use Arctic Silver epoxy, but then forget about taking them apart :) Or you can use ASII paste with small dabs of super glue on the corners.

Hope this helps.

You dont need to use superglue, Arctic Alumina is an adhesive made out of a composite of aluminum oxide and boron nitride

Check it out:

Its cool that you can make your own but I'd buy it, as one its gotta be messy and time consuming, and second the real stuff cooled the probe 2.5*celcius cooler.
