Figured i'd ask you folks about this stuff....

Right now, i have 30gb and 20gb, both 7200rpm both ~1yr old. Basically, i want to put my 20gb in my older pc to have a small home network (and, no one will use my pc...finally :))...Doing this will leave my with my primary 30gb. Now, i am wondering which would be the best scenario:

Sell the 30gb, get a nice big 80gb; concern is...should i have everything on ONE drive? or is backup better w/2 drives?

keep the 30gb, get a nice large 60gb, use the 60gb for back up...ie i'll have ~90gb versus 80gb, but the 2nd hd is more heat that i don't want

if getting the 60gb, should i opt for the 5400rpm one? it's gonna be used mainly for backup, and the 30gb will be for apps, etc

thanx a ton for any input, as i'm kinda stuck on this!

My persdonal choice would be to get the second HDD, and setup a RAID. I personally use RAID striped for speed in my main rig. I have 1 46 gig, and one 40 gig raid 0. No matter what though I would get a 7200 rpm drive at the least. Never know what you might be doing with that drive in a few months. You can always stripe for redundancy if you want to use the drive for backup reasons, right?
