Get this crap - I shut my new machine off last night, unplugged everything, and it set there all day. I go to turn it back on, and the machine wont post!!! Its not even getting any power to the DVD drives. It powers up and all the fans spin, but thats about it.
Ugh - any ideas?

damn - I think I found the problem. I took everything apart, and one of the IC pins on the board had pierced the foam pad of the Big Typhoon and was making contact with the metal bracket!! That could explain how it went from working fine to not at all with out anyone touching it. Sheeeit. I'm fabricating a new mount - hope its OK. I dont see any burnt chips or anything....

Thanks greenmaji - luck was obviously with me this evening! After reinstalling the heatsink with a nice thick piece of corrugated cardboard inbetween the foam pad and metal bracket - everything is OK. I didnt think I had the heatsink on too tight either...something to be weary of!
The P5WDH came with a small slot fan that's meant to be placed over the fets if you're running passive or water cooling. I velcroed it to the side of the X1900XT's heatsink and aimed it at the south bridge - ~10C temp drop!! :)
Well Im feeling much better anyway:)

I'd be weary of the cardboard, Don't know how well thats going to hold up over time and heat.

I hear that Loki - Im thinking about pulling it off again anyway, to lap the HSF. Ill come up with a more permanent solution by then. The base on my Big Typhoon is awfully rough...Ive never lapped a HS before so I thought its a good excuse to try:)

I know this sounds silly but if you have a bicycle shop near by. See if they have a used inner tube laying around. You cut out the pattern you would need with a razor.
I know it works, I've done it.

That's a great idea - I was looking around the house last night for something more substantial but all I could come up with was the cardboard.
I like the BigTyphoon, but Im considering changing to a newer HSF like the Ninja or HR-01 in an effort to keep the system as quiet as possible.
