View Full Version : Unit times
i've borged some machines, as im fairly new (very actually) was wondering what kind've times i should expect em.
example 1.8 celly 512 24/7
only used for maybe 2/3 a day AT MOST ?
how long would/should that take to complete say a "20000000" steps unit?
cheers.

It honestly depends on the WU more then the number of steps, but for a 1.8 celly, my guess would put the normal WUs at 2-4 days and any large WUs to 8-10 days possibly...
That's comparing it to my experience with a 1.2ghz duron...
Edit: Was going to add more info and some links but ChasR beat me to it... see below
Dan,
Not many in the OC forums use the Graphical Client so they typically refer to frame times, each of which is 1% of the steps in a WU. All current WUs have 100 frames. Production is refered to in terms of points per day per GHz per core. Intel netburst cpu make about 40ppd/GHz/core on all regular work units. So you can figure out how long any given WU will take if you know how many points the WU is worth. The WUs are so varied that there is no answer possible as to how long one of a given number of steps should take. You can determine the value of a WU by looking at psummary (http://fah-web.stanford.edu/psummary.html). Even better, download Electron Microscope III (http://home.comcast.net/~wxdude1/emsite/download.html) or FAHMon (http://fahmon.silent-blade.org/) both of which will allow you to monitor progress across the network. I use EMIII because of it's ability to store statistics on networked computers. To see the expected production by cpu by core, check out this thread: http://www.ocforums.com/showthread.php?t=462713
If i can view how their doing over the network that'd be so much easier, and comforting to know their doing something.
i'll check it out tomoz and give it a whirl, tnx again..
