View Full Version : RPG recommendation?
What's out there and considered good these days?
Havne't been gaming much lately. SW BFII is the last game I played and that was mostly due to my 6yo son who loves it.
Before that was Doom3, DS II, UR, which takes me back to the 3 years I spent playing EQ.
Not looking for a MMORPG since the time commitment is so high.
I lean towards the fantasy types.
Are you looking for PC only RPGs or console RPGs, too?

I didn't like Oblivion too much... Titan Quest is supposed to be decent though...

Oblivion and although you said you didn't want a mmorpg, Guild Wars is a nice choice, to me it honestly feels more like a rpg than a mmorpg.

I 2nd Fable and raise you Knights of the Old Republic. I've got Battlefront and Battlefront II, got them both for less than $20 on the Xbox (9.99 each) and MAN those are dull. It's just Enemy Territory with Star Wars characters. zzzzzzzzzzz

2nd Knights of the Old Republic, both the first and the second are great games and will last you quite a while since there are 2 endings with each game.

My votes go to KOTOR and Fable.
Neverwinter nights, and Neverwinter nights 2 just came out.

i loved kotor 1. kotor 2 was awsome as well... but i ran into a glitch in kotor 2 that would not let me continue on in the game. :(

get a ps2. i finally got one and i've been neglecting my PC. no good games since oblivion imo :-/
Oblivion, KOTOR I and II, Fable <=== ALL AWESOME!! Fable is the shortest.
I liked Dungeon Siege II (graphics arent super great) its fun though if you like hack'n slash. Titan Quest I found boring as heck... I think all those years of Diablo 2 and Dungeon Siege 1 and 2 beat down my desire to play those types of games. And look into Phantasy Star Universe... I liked PSO on the Dreamcast... you can do single player or multi, its not what I would call a true MMORPG in the sense of the way the mulitiplayer and the servers work(also not time commitment wise).
get a ps2.
Indeed. If you want RPGs, this is the system you want. FF10, Disgaea1+2, FF12, well I could go on forever, but those are usually considered "the best" on the system. And don't forget the PS1 greats like FF7-9, FFTactics, Vagrant Story, Grandia, Xenogears, and Chrono Cross! If you're an RPG fan you have to play all of these :)

Phantasy Star Universe.....got it about a weeka go, you can play online or choose not too and play the story mode...which is very console RPG, cut scenes, anime inspired characters, etc....you'll want a gamepad though I think...I haven't tried the keyboard controls but the my saitek pad mapped real nice.

RPG INCOMING!!!
BOOOOM!!!!
Im sure they sell rpg's in backalley's
:D
Oblivion is sweet, I vote for that. It will kill your hardware though, even modern, decently high-end systems were hurting on this game when it was released just this spring. Of course if you have the latest and greatest that has been released since then it probably won't even be an issue.
I loved NWN and Dungeon Siege, didn't even know a NWN sequel had come out! I think I might kinda be over those top-down RPG's though as they're not quite as 'interactive' anymore. Just clicking on things, watching your guys fight, and picking up treasure all day. The DS2 demo had me bored in 15 minutes, just the same crap with prettier graphics. It was cool a couple years ago.
