I had the choice between a PS3 and an equally priced gaming computer for christmas, obviously, the choice is the PS3. Ive got some general questions that maybe some of you can answer.

1. Will the 20GB 499$ version have HDMI abilities with adapters?

2. Do I need to buy controllers seprate? Ill need 2.

3. Is there really a need for the 60GB? Will I be able to personally upgrade to a larger capacity HDD like with the PS2?

Please, No one bring thier sony and PS3 hate crap in here, its really getting old hearing about how much you guys hate them, and I dont want this thread closed.

I can answer #2. I think the ps3, like most consoles, will include one controller. If you want two or more, your going to have to buy them seperate. I doubt you would need a 60gb hdd. Im still using the original hdd on my xbox (8gb), and its only like 3% full with 50 saved games.

I would buy the 60GB because media and such fills up space really quick, at least with the 360.

No.

Comes with 1 controller. You need to buy the other one separately.

3. Is there really a need for the 60GB? Will I be able to personally upgrade to a larger capacity HDD like with the PS2?
No idea, but I bet you can upgrade it. It's practically a computer after all.

That's off the top of my head though, so there's always a chance I'm wrong.

ok cool. Will it look as good on a regular TV without HDMI? I have a regular IDE 500GB HDD in my PS2, so PS3 will probably have S-ATA.

I dont know if 300$ is worth 40gigs.

I've heard Ridge Racer will take up around 5 Gigs or so of space? Might be BS but if it is true ouch.

By regular I assume you mean non-HDTV...and non-HDTV's don't have HDMI inputs....infact alot of HDTV's don't have HDMI inputs.

as for the HDD....im not for certain...but I think it's going to depend on if you want to use it as a media server...I don't know if PS3 is going to have game downloads like Wii and 360...but those two reasons would probably be why you'd want the larger HDD. I know with the 360 it wasn't worth the money saved to buy the core package.

i thought sony changed their mind about HDMI, and ARE putting it on the $499 model?

Thats what i remember reading last.

then again, I could be wrong as well. heh

Well im not worried about the output.

I meant would the graphics of the PS3 with HDMI out look better on a non-HDTV when compared to the 499$ version?

edit: Im going with the 600$ version. 100 extra $ is most defenatly worth 40 gb, wifi, HDMI, and memory stick/SD slots.

Here's the facts:

HDMI is now on both versions, it will look great with HDMI or component but like the 360 will look like crap on a standard-def TV. UNLIKE the 360, you'll have to buy component or HDMI cable extra as it is not included.

I don't think you'll need over 20GB, if it's going to be like the 360 and you do ever need more than 20GB you can plug in an external drive via USB

The other difference is you get wireless with the more expensive version

Either way, you'll need to buy another controller, $50

recap: $100 extra for 40GB bigger hard drive, wireless and a a shiny chrome plate, if it's worth it or not is up to you.

There, I did it. I posted PS3 facts without any hate. Aren't you so proud?

woot! go fudge! haha

Are the controllers going to be wifi or bluetooth?

I guess your right, but without wifi, all the cool PSP possibilities will be lost.

They're bluetooth like the Mac mighty-mouse and keyboard as is the PS3-PSP connection, I believe. The 360 uses 2.4ghz wireless.

"Notice how the PS3 uses uber-new tech"

Ive had a 2.4 ghz wireless xbox controller for almost 2 years.

This will be the console to rule them all.

ummm, yeah.....sure....whaterver

BTW, to the OP..... Did you stand in line forever and get your name on the waiting list to get one? If you did you still may not get one and if you didn't then you may as well figure spending 2-3x the price on E-bay or waiting at least 6 months to get one.

The walmart here will carry them(from what I know). Ill be sure to get one, as I am the only person in this town with parents willing to pay 600$ for a gaming console.

Don't bet on it. I heard Wallyworld took pre-orders on the Wii yesterday and sold out in like 2 minutes. You'd think they'd do the same for the PS3 if they haven't already. Damn, flea-bay is going to be loaded with the things....

Why the hell are they making so little of these??? Im sure they will bring more out later on. As long as I get one sooner or later, ill be fine.

Sony plans to have 400,000 units to stores for the North American launch, with another 100,000 planned for Japan. While it's way too early to say whether the launch will be a success, failure, or somewhere in between, it is certain that there will be very high demand for the PS3 when it launches. Larger outlets like Wal-Mart, Target, and Best Buy will certainly get larger allocations than outlets like GameStop and EB Games, but scenes similar to the Xbox 360 launch shortages are sure to be repeated. Hopefully, Sony will be able to hit its revised 2 million target for shipments by the end of the year.

well hell, now I know ill get one. Im not worried about getting it on launch

If you dont have a preorder its going to be pretty tough to get one, also they recently said that they might even have less than the 400k available but it was from the inquirer..

I would expect to be able to get a PS3 sometime in the spring/early winter and they are making as many as they can.. its just that they have had bad yeilds on cell, blu-ray is being a pain to make ect.

The walmart in my town is almost garanteed to get a line.

but i used to work there, and have friend still there. It appears the managers are thinking about doing some sort of raffle type of deal.

That is, everyone who wants one gets a ticket, if your name is pulled, you get to buy one.

at least, thats one of the idea's their working on.

i'm going to find out if this is true or not. If they are doing the raffle, i'm going into walmart with like 5 of my friends, and have all of us put our names in. Naturally none of have the money to buy one. So if they win, the PS3 will be mine.

And if they ARN'T doing the raffle, but its a first come, first server basis, i still may have a chance. as i used to work with the lady in the electronics section when i worked there. and i still talk to her alot every time i go in. so i may be able to get her to hold me one till i get there.

though the chances of that are slim, as i bet managers will be in the electronics section, to make sure none are going to get stolen. But then again, it all depends on which manager(s) would be patrolling the area as well.

all in all, i have at least a SMALL shot of getting one. although i'm not going to hold my breath, or expect to get one. but i'll still try.
