ive just upgraded a cpu and am selling the old one a 1.3/200.

its had a thermal pad from the original fan on it and also some compound.

i wanted to know whats the best way to clean the die up and to remove the hardened pad 'crud' thats formed around where the die meets the top of the cpu.

thanks

Acetone is the best. I have used everything from rubbing alcohol to liquid soap!

I always use engine degreaser. Works like a charm. Much easier then acetone.

any solvent will work. The best I have used is 1-1-1 trichloroethane(i am a chemistry nerd as well :D) but acetone and rubbing alcohol work well too. The Engine Degreaser Hugo suggested would work fine as well.
