I am getting my new XP 1600 tonight. Just need some quick advice/tips on what you all have used to unlock the multiplier. I want to be able to go get the supplies tonight from radioshack or an auto store. What do I need???

1:defogger paint
2:super glue
3: razor and tape

???
Thanks

That looks good. Mayybe some really fine grit sandpaper to sand the contacts. Some rubbing alcohol and cotton shwabs incase you make a mess. Do you need a guide on how to do this?

Nope, I will just use the guides off o/cers and toms. Just found the one here and I like it.
Thanks again

Alright. Good luck and make sure to keep us up to date on the results.

No!!! Do not do that! Use this technique, very successful and totally reversible! If the chip blows up with the defogger crap how are you gonna get that off the chip not to mention the crazy glue? The way I am talking about uses silicone thermal paste to fill the slits (never dries, can be removed) and silver thermal paste (never dries, can be removed). The only hard part is getting the silver thermal paste. It is very easy too, takes less than 5 minutes! Here is a link:

I agree with the other guy about VR Zone. Its easy and safe.

I would go slow, tape each bridge off one at a time, use clear 3m packing tape instead of scotch tape because it sticks far better to the cpu.

O and I would look for the sticky thread about the unlocking the XP video. To get a VERY good idea at what you will do doing download and watch that first

Good luk!

Just use tape and silicon, nonconductive paste to cover up the holes and then connect the bridges using anything conductive, but don't use tape on each individual bridging as it smudges the white silicon paste too much.

for mine, i used regular artist's acrylic (burnt umber, so any traces wont be visible if i have to RMA) to fill the pits, and a conductive pen to draw the traces. you should buy a $3 plastic loupe at the electronics store as it makes the whole thing much easier. get some acetone(fingernail polish remover) to mix with rubbing alcohol to clean up any mistakes and you should be fine.

http://www.vr-zone.com/guides/AMD/AthlonXPUnlock/ If it fails due to O/Cing it or faulty connection job then why would you need to take out the paint & glue? You can not expect your warranty to cover that. Be reasonable & honest. If you break it then suck it up.

Artist's acrylic, huh? How did that work for you? Which processor did you use it on? How long have you been running with it? Does acrylic get soft with heating? Any pics?

i used it on an axp 1600+. been running it for a week unlocked and it seems fine. if i had a digital camera (or even a good luddite camera) i would post pics for you. i decided to use acrylic because it is much easier to work with and clean up than superglue or epoxy or nail polish.

I just unlocked a 1700 xp a few days ago, I used J-B Weld Kwik two fill in the slots, after cleaning them out well with acetone to get the brown junk out, JB kwik dries to workable in like 5 minutes, which gives you a lil longer than super glue to make sure things are nice and flat, etc. You can get it at any hardware store, its like an epoxy compound. Slick stuff really and you can get it off with acetone before it cures. Just an idea.

Also something that I noticed that kind of worries me, when I was working with my cpu, 1700xp, I guess they are using some new organic compound for the chip, well anyway I dropeed a couple drops of distilled water on it and it absorbed it in like 2 seconds, like a sponge it did, hehe. Cpu still seems to work fine, I let it sit around for about 5 hours before I put it back in the computer and it runs just fine, but was a lil disturbing to see how liquids are absorbed like that. Any thoughts?
