I've had my rig since June and all I have played are FPS's. I have played Riddick, HL2/EP1, SIN, Quake 4, Doom 3, FEAR and a few others. I'm looking to get into something else but don't know where to start. I played FF10 a long time ago and liked that. Not sure if I want to try WoW or not. Seems like it takes way to much time. I'd like to get games that I can finish in a decent amount of time. I'm ordering a 7900GS this week since my card has a bid on EB so I should be able to handle anything at an acceptable FR.
What other types of non FPS games do most people play and enjoy like Half Life and FEAR where pretty much everyone that plays it likes it? Thanks

I'm a turn based strategy addict, like Civ IV, Alpha Centauri, MoO 2, GalCiv 2, Space Rangers 2. These don't need a wicked video card though.
When my gaming itch isn't satified by TBS or FPS, I turn to RTS. C&C:G, DoW, and Kohan II were my racent favorites.
Of course right now I'm playing Halo PC. My rig actually cries about the wasted power I've got...

So if you had to pick one what would it be. I'd like something newer that had good graphics to take advantage of the 7900.

I am like you , i more or less only play FPS.
BUT, on the side, i would recommend Civ 4 or even Civ 3, i love playing it now and then
This week i went one step further, i decided to try out Gothic 3!!! and to be honest, i didnt think i would like it, was slow for me, but now, i think i am actually getting addicted to the game!!!
Civ 4 is good with the graphics.

sports games like Madden, NBA2k, NHL2K  , racing games like Forza and Need for speed and rpg-hybrid games like Knights of the Old Republic, Fable and Beyond Black and White, shooters like Rebel Assuault and Starfox then there's platformers like Mario, Sonic etc... I HATE FPS games so I could go on and on, but won't.

I would suggest EVE-Online. it is a great MMORPG. you have to P2P though. not much though.

Eww Gothic 3 looks pretty good, very Oblivion like.
Oh yah Oblivion is a great game if you are into RPGs. It can be tough and it will bring any vid card(s) to it(s) knees if you crank everything up.
I play a lot of Need for speed when I just want to sit down for 15-30 minutes and get some game on. (most wanted, although underground was great too), neverwinter nights with both expansion packs for serious long gaming (soon going to get neverwinter nights 2) although I really like that cuz I was a D&D kid in the 80's :)
Um Civilization 4 like mentioned, also sim city 4, age of empires 3 is also in that vein sorta (more civ then sim)
Madden always :) Some people like the other sports games too. Madden is a great multiplayer game too :)

Gothic 3 is pretty great i am suprised, people say it is above Oblivion in many ways.
I just got NFS Carbon - EA FAINLLY seemed to have done some serious coding optimizations, with most wanted, icould barely turn up the goodies with out constant lag sessions, on Carbon, all the way baby!

yeah, Oblivion is a great game. I am also one of the almost FPS exclusive typed people. But Oblivion, while still FPS in nature, has RPG gameplay. So it's a bit different from the normal run and gun FPS.
Other good games to try would be Age of Empires, Empire Earth, Rise of nations. Those are all similar in style of gameplay (I don't know what the exact genre is for them, I think it's RTS ?)
The Thief games are also really awesome. They are quasi FPS in that you control the character from a 1st person or 3rd person angle, but the game play isn't your typical FPS (Kind of like Oblvion. Although Oblivion != Thief)
I'll recommend Starcraft/Broodwar (RTS) as the best game ever created.

I just downloaded the Company of Heroes demo, haven't installed yet, but by all accounts, it is a good RTS as well.

Oblivion is a great game, Morrowind was better imo, and will run on any modern computer.
For real time strategy I really like Dawn of War.
Some of my favorite games are the really old top down PC RPGs, I would pick up fallout and fallout 2 as they are some of my favorite games of all times.
I never tried any of the civ games but I really enjoyed alpha centauri
If you want to try a MMO like wow or eve online then I would reccomend you download the demo first
I too am trying my hand at something different from FPS, hope oblivion is worth it lol
