Rather than spending a whopping $20 on a new (actually used) pulled celeron mobo, I'de rather consult with my favorite computer web site message board. (Your welcome.)

Anyway- I have a Celeron 300 Compaq Deskpro and I'm too lazy to go up to a nearby computer shop to get a working pulled mobo. My problem on my current board lies somewhere in the error "ide disk controller error" that displays right after power on. No Hard drive, no cds, the only controller plug that actually works is the floppy, and i think that might be a little screwed up too (even with no floppy disk, displays the "non system disk" floppy drive error). I feel that it is an irriversable problem, and I might be out of luck reserecting this mobo. What would you do.

Well, here is what I did. It sounds like it was originally something wrong with my connection. Everything was connected ok. I then looked in setup to see if it actually even regeristers in ide setup and there is nothing, so I then thought it was a failed HD. Well, I tried several other working HD;s and nothing. I can boot windows, HD's dont even regereister. I then tried hooking my HD on a expansion IDE disk controller. Nothing. That really perplexed me. If it was something messed up with the board, I thought that at least the PCI expantion IDE disk controller would work, but it didnt. I was perplexed. No hd, no cdrom, no zip.

I made the mistake of contacting compaq on their boards, and they gave me the "repair" salespitch, which will end up costing me something like 300 bucks to repair or replace a $20 mobo.

All the ram works, the cards all work, so do the drives, it is just the ide disk controller on the mobo.

What would be a way to jerry rig this (other than using a expansion slot disk controller, cuz that didnt work either).

The pc was unuslally fast when it worked, and it was a great pc. I got all the parts and everything but the monitor from a friend. I havent got money to buy a newer GHz machine and just want to repair this one to go online and do reports and stuff on. It would be nice to have a third pc running in the house.

Any suggestions? If anyone knows how to jerryrig, it is you!

May sound trivial but have you reset the CMOS? (Got to start somewhere.)

Yes, I tried resetting the cmos first and about a million times after that. Nothing. I called up that local store and there is no cheap mobos for my old celeron 300 yet. They said they will probably have one in about a week, so unless i rig it and fix it now, I will actually have to move my body to the outside and go up to that store soon and get one... I dread the very thought of opening my wallot and paying for a 4 year old board...

Just a thought but have you used different cables? (A bad ide cable can cause that error.)
