View Full Version : Dual Booting Vista and XP 64 bit edition...
i currently have windows xp 64 bit edition installed and i wanted to check out vista in a dual boot configuration. Not sure how to go about setting that up and what all needs to be done. Im about to reformat anyways so take that into consideration, not to mention I am running two 74gig raptors in raid. Not sure if this will have any effect on the raid drivers I am going to need, and how im going to have to go about this.
Thanks
Easiest way would be to format and partition using XP. Create a second partition for Vista, install XP. Then install Vista.

easier than that would use partition magic to creat a second partition and install vista to it. it will take care of the dual booting itself.
So install xp, then use partition magic to make a partition, then install vista on that partition? That makes sense, i just thought i would run into oodles of trouble being that im running raid.
Well if you are formatting anyway and doing a fresh XP install just do all the partitions from the XP setup. If you don't want to do a fresh XP install Partition Magic works.
As far as trouble with RAID well bascially the only possible trouble is drivers. Now if the XP drivers will work, or if Vista has drivers included I couldn't tell you. You will just need to try and see.
Thanks for the help!!! Off I go into the unknown. I will let you know what happens.

here is a good guide for installing on a raid with vista (if vista raid drivers aren't avail for you). It might be a little different but it seems pretty universal.
