can anyone tell me the normal operating temp of a amd athalon 1100Mhz processor,
i am cleaning it up for a friend and i had to switch the hsf for one i had lying around the house because the other had a dead fan on it,
right now it is running about 60-65C is this too high????

Yes that is to high specially if those are idle temps. That chip with an ok cooler should be 35 to 40 degrees at idle at least that's what I would look for.
What are you using to measure the temps and what kind of mobo is it?

they are idle temps, the mobo is a asus k7m pro i think, will temps that high cause damage at all????
i am just using the bios for reading the temps, it has been sitting idle for about 30 mins and is stable at 62C
Ya. That's a bit hot. Also depends on the temp of the room the machine is in. my machine will run 43c under 100% load at 25c room temp.
If your running an asus board you could be seeing warmer temps due to the probe showing +8-10c on some boards.
under 50 c is the correct target.

The probe could be giving you an 8 to 10 degree high reading what was the temp with the other HSF?
Your temps with that chip should be under 50 degrees under load.
Those temps wont kill the chip but they will make it very unstable, and running that high allready they might get up high enough under load to kill it.
My 1.33 runs at 49 degrees under load when it is oce'd to 1520 and running at 1.92v. I'm using a good hsf but not the best by any means.

ok, i switched out the hsf for for a larger Cooler Master, and the temps are now 51C at idle, is 62 that much worse then 51?
I am not really that incompetent and illversed in the relm of overclocking, i am just an intel man personally, i have no idea of what temps are good or bad for a amd processor

I would say so. The problem with a hsf that lets the chip idle that high is that once it starts to work and heat up it will just keep heating up because the hsf isn't strong enough. This will lead to bsod and if your not lucky a dead chip.
