EDIT: It looks like Cliffy B didn't let us down. I was worried about it because of how awful Unreal 2 was, but here are some early reviews:
From IGN's what they said:
IGN.com 11/07/06 9.4 /10 9.4
GameSpot 11/07/06 9.6 /10 9.6 I know this is = to the highest score they've ever given a game like RE4 and a couple of others.
1UP.com 11/07/06 10 /10 10.0
Yahoo! Video Games 11/07/06 5 /5 10.0
Now I am VERY excited. The co-op via live (split screen too) should be sweet too.
I can't freakin wait. This game looks like quake, mixed with Ghost Recon:AW, mixed with a CNN news cast.
And the first Unreal 3 engine game to boot.
Hopefully we will see some reviews soon.
Whos getting it?!?!?!
ps it even has the first really cool Xbox comercial I've ever seen, too bad its so short. It needs to be more like 60 seconds.

Looks like a great game, been watching it for awhile since I'm a big fan of the Unreal Engine and franchise. I also think I'll be waiting on it, the main reason is I don't have a 360 and no plans on getting one just yet. Bought a Xbox and all it does is collect dust.
MS and Epic have definitely put the money into the marketing department for this game. I see ads online and on TV daily.
I remember watching a CliffyB (I cant stand the guy, but..) and he was explaining some of the game, sounded like a lot of thought went into it, not just like another fps. He also said the learning curve would be a little steep at first, I'm curious to see how that plays out.
Overall though I think it will be one hot game. Have fun playing it guys :).

I'm thinking they released this game now hoping it will take a little fizz away from the PS3 launch, it might very well do so.
Also, those that get the game keep us updated, I'm curious to know how the learning curve is for this game that Cliff mentioned.

So you're willing to pay an extra $200 for a console that's %1 more powerful and a Blu-Ray plaver?
After getting a 360, I have less regrets after reading up on the PS3's specs.
And now I want to blow my money on tons of 360 exclusive titles. :p

I was gonna say that gametrailers is going GoW crazy. This game looked good...I was more excited by Lost Planet....after reading the reviews and seeing newer gameplay....buying a 360 was only a matter of time...but that time is shrinking rapidly, can't wait to see how Bluedragon turns out, and the ability to download TV and movie HD content....awesome!

Probably take 1-2 years before its considered to come to PC.
All console ports take at least that long. Well maybe except GTA. But Halo 2 will hit the PC this coming year, and that was like 2 years.
Added note on topic, GoW looks very sweet and would be one of my number 1 picks besides Mass Effect, Lost Planet, Halo 3, Forza 2 for X360 when I get it. So far, unless Wii is a true bust when I try it, I'll be holding off on the X360 til later so hopfully more games and toys will be added to this console when the time does come that I buy it hopfully when I get an HDTV, if Wii is a bust oh well I'll get it and at least I can enjoy it on my 24" panel in high def hehe.

I heard it was originally going to come out on 360/PC but then not so much PC...Then completely ignoring PC all together and saying that was just a rumor! Xbox 360 only title so who knows. I still want a 360 when the new year comes, I am holding out for the revision.

You are saying that PS3 is 1% more powerful then 360 based on which facts?
Just a Blu-Ray player itself is worth more then $200 and not counting in that M$ didn't include next gen media player in their console and is now selling HD-DVD player for 360 at $200
Forgive me for hijacking this thread, but I'm just sick of people giving PS3 a bad name based on BS facts!

Out of pure speculation, I would say the PS3 is about 5-10% faster in hardware wise, but slower in load times. To be honest, I am looking forward to the PS3, but definatly not right now, Sony always seems to have problems at launch/first gens, and I will stay away and watch what happens.
As for GoW, it was the original reason I wanted to get a 360, so I will be getting one in about a month or so, and definatly down the road get Mass Effect, Lost Planet, and Bioshock (maybe get that on PC, I will have to see) and many other great 360 games.
Either way, I am pro gaming :D
Here's a question I'd like answered. How come a thread regarding a game of the calibre of Gears of War is reduced to the beginnings of a console fanboy fight?
Can't you guys discuss this game and not bring up an opposing console for once?!
Just stick to the game.

I've got that answer for you, and you may be surprised at the simplicity of it.
It is because people are not perfect, and they like to express their opinion on certain subjects. Areas for expressing these opinions are numerous, one of them being an internet forum, or message board. This is one of those.
I hope I have brought some closure to you, as you now possess the answer you so desire.
Hmmm... Maybe, I should have pre-ordered this one. Oh well, I'll just have to rush around to the stores after work to try and pick this up. Looks awesome.
Didn't I read somewhere that between now and the 14th that there was going to be a 24hr live marathon and the person with the highest score at the end would win a trip to Vegas?

I got it yesterday.
First and foremost. If you have a modded 360, guess what; GoW won't load unless you have the newest firmware. (Got scary for a second)
Simply amazing. I am not a fan of shooters at all, but I will for sure play this one through a few times. It really looks as good as the trailer does. And the one running on tv does not do it justice. Download the 720p trailer on xbox live.
Controls are fairly typical but work. Lots of stuff you normally dont get in this style shooter. Plays like a mix between halo and (dangit forgot the name. The xbox shooter where you hide behind stuff all the time {killzone??})
You can run. Not just a crappy sprint like you get on a few shooters. A duck down, usuefull, mover your ass run. And you get to use it in the game, not just for dodging fire. So far (1-2hours in) there have been several elements that are not just shooter. You have to lure a big monster out of a building while avoiding its wild swings and juggernaut dashes.
Run and gun will often get you killed. You almost always play as a team, even on single player you have a squad running around with you. Always using cover to your advantage. Often times you find your self inches away from an enemy, each of you hiding on opposite sides of a barrier. Most of the time you have to keep your team alive too, not just yourself. And the mechanics of moving between 1 cover to the next are cool. The game is smart enough to dash between ones that are close together or roll etc.
There is no health, which is kind of nice. On the first difficulty you can usually survive 3-4 shots and if you get out of the line of fire for a sec you will recover. Simple but it works. No running for healthpacks with 1 health left. Ammo seems to be pretty plentiful. But already at least once the game has forced me into what weapons I can use. You carry 1 type explosive, 1 pistol, 2 large weapons. Halo style you can swap any type for another of the same type weapon when you find it. The basic assault rifle with the chainsaw is a nice touch. Chainsaw will cover the screen for sec when used. Messy game.
I need to pay for live because coop would be awesome. Sounds like you can do a lot of setup to flank the enemys etc.
The game has a really cool "point of interest" system. Holding "y" will focus your view on anything in the area important. If nothing is there it may just focus on your nearest squad member. A need example though is the tutorial at the start, a chopper flies over head blowing **** up and your pov will follow the action as it goes on, cinema style if you hold the button, or you can just keep running by.
Missing:
-Needs a jump. To jump over obstacles you first have to cover in front of it, then press foward and "A" to climb over.
-Cover problems. Not everything can be used as cover. Sometimes the guy just does a roll instead of hiding.
-While this is the best looking thing to ever hit a console, just looking at the engine you can tell there is so much more wanting to come out. A lot of the shading/shadows/textures/etc seem to be dynamic, and you can sometimes see them drop in quality depending how much is going on.

Heh. I'm a regular at my local EBGames, so when I asked if they had any for sale, they said no, because they had 64 preorders for Collectors, and 102 preorders for the normal one. They got 60 and 100, respectively.
Either way, I asked them if I could buy a Collector's Edition, and they said "I'm not supposed to do this...but here" and they let me get the Collector's Edition.
I'm damn happy. Very, very happy.
:santa::bday::santa:
Hahaha, very nice.
Maybe I could con my local EB into doing that, although I doubt they will even have it... damn them...
From what I've seen I'm not impressed. This looks like the same run of mill FPS that Halo was. Whats so innovative and awsome about this game? The graphics? Surely not, I've seen way better. The gameplay? Been done before..
Whats so great about this game, I can't find one original thing it has accomplished.

Well, it's not original per se, but the story is great (obvious plus) and you can't just run-n-gun, you have to think semi-tactically. It's not Ghost Recon, but it acts realistic enough that in a couple of shots, you die.
And it has a chainsaw on the end of a gun. That's original enough for me.

Think of it this way. Does great pizza suck because someone else made pizza before and its not an original idea? Hell no! Its still killer because pizza when done right is great! It maybe getting good reviews because it does a good job at the things it does.
Anyway, it sound like you, much like me, haven't even played the game and unlike me don't plan on playing it.

First of all this is not a FPS, it's an action third person shooter.
Second, all the big review sites claim that these are best graphics seen in game up to date and after playing it I concur. Again watching an online vid of a gameplay doesn't do it justice, you need to see it on HDTV to fully appreciate it.
The gameplay is probably what makes this game so good. It might seem like another run and gun game from a first perspective but once you pick it up and start playing you will be blown away.
Anyways...
I was playing the game for a whole day yesterday and I'm simply blown away. I was thinking to myself this whole time that this will be another one of those games, but boy was I wrong.
The game is simply amazing!!!!!
The graphics are so well done in the game, that I couldn't believe that this was running in realtime. From the opening level in prison where you first start off it seemed to be Doomish like game, but once I stepped outside it blew my socks off. This is without a doubt THE best looking game out to date!
The gameplay is what makes this game so good. AI is simply outstunting even on casual difficulty as you will be forced to think twice where you take cover, cause if you are outnumbered don't be surprised if the enemy flanks you from the back or straight out rush you down with all the power they got. So taking cover and working as a team is a must in this game. Weapons are very well balanced but they all have they ups and downs depending on a type of scenario you are in. Luckily you will be able to carry up to two primary guns at a time, grenade and a pistol. With all primary guns you will be able to perform melee attacks, but the most impressive one is the chainsaw attack
Sound is another big plus in this game, especially if you have 5.1 setup and on full blast
One thing that I noticed and is probably what makes this game so impressive is that there are absolutely no load times. Only break you will get is from the cutscenes, but they are all done in real time so it doesn't take you out of the game like some other games do.
I'd give it 9.5 out of 10 cause it's the best action game that I have played up to date, but wish the game was little longer.

My buddy bought this game yesterday and invited me to play with him in CO-OP. I never really like to play shooting type of game in console due to the controls. After playing 15 mins......Oooohhhhh man...... I was hooked, This is the only game that made me play in a console more than 3 hours (usually 30 mins is my max). Everything on this game is just pure fun. Never had these Game experience since my very first videogame. I'd rate this 11 out of 10!

Nice. I'd like to do a little coop on live tonight.
Finally got it this morning and it mixes aspects from a few different games and polishes them up to near perfection.
Its like Killswitch, GRAW and the typical FPS rolled into one.

Picked up the game yesterday and played co-op on hardcore and a bit of the vs. modes.
The campaign mode for this game is just unreal. My usual complaint about games where you use cover is the overall pace of the game is too slow. Not at all in this game. Even though there is a lot of cover it doesn't slow the pace of the game down. The action is intense, great visuals, great sound. The AI of the enemies is sweet too. I can't remember the amount of times I have rushed up too far from my allies just to have the locust run up and pummel me.
I was a bit worried with all of the hype that surrounded this game before it came out, thinking a lot of it was just as a result of the graphics. No more worries.

I can't find one original thing it has accomplished.
That's why the game is going to be a major hit, because it isn't "original" as your typical fps.
You want to play original, go get Grand Theft Auto, version 25 CSI Edition, different story, different characters, but basically same game with a new box. By the way that was a joke, because GTA 3 and up were all basically the same to me..."original".
The commercial sure does a good job of making me want to buy it, but after so many games that have had good comercials and made me wish that I had just lit a match to my $50 (or more) I think that I will wait.

ALL FPS'ers are the same, what do you want? if you want to play a game in first person (ok, this is third) and SHOOT, how else do you want to do it?
fps'ers aren't original per se, they're just very fun, and they work splendidly for games, shooting a bullet is something easily replicated on a computer, not so much doing complex movements

omg, got it yesterday, and it rocks my f'in socks off! i was sorta hesitent about this game, but i figured what the crap, i only have 3 games for my 360 and it looked good. (cant jsut wait for halo 3 forever.) these graphics are (and there is no other word to describe it) amazing. honestly this is more than i thought the 360 could do. they just blow my mind. and im only playing on a reg def tv/projector. (although the graphics are a lil dark for the projextor.) the learning curve is a lil steep, and you really have to be patient and work through each battle. no run and gunning ala halo. but its fun. if you take your time and think each fight out it is alot more rewarding.
not to crap on halo, i LOVE that game, but there is nothing realistic about running into a room and hopping around while you shoot everything in sight. in gow when you make it through a fight, you FEEL like you just made it through. and you feel like thats how you REALLY would fight a fire fight. anyways, this has been too much time away from gow. see ya, suckas!

I just beat the game today. The gameplay is quite great! It's kind of like those old arcade games where you hold a light gun and break cover to fire, except that you can choose exactly where your cover is.
I can't wait to try out the multiplayer on it. I too wish the game was a bit longer. Found a couple bugs in it though. In one of the missions I walked through a door off the intended path(after hoping over a barricade thing) and went off the level. Walked around the outside of the map. Second bug was with the endboss.. (RAAM? RAAK? eh, w/e) My partner and I somehow got him stuck on the train platform in front of use for about 6 minutes.. he just stood there and wouldn't move. Eventually the bats got us.
Now to beat GOW in the hardest difficulty... and find all the COG tags.
