Since Intel launched their Core 2 Duo new generation processors, did get
great recommend in mid-range and high-end market, build up with brake
through performance and 65nm tech.
But in the mainstream and entry level side, Intel still use old P4 architecture
to beat AMD K8 series, they also prepare to launch the single core Conroe-L
for new product lines.
In the recent days, we already saw few Conroe-L test, like single core 2.4G
512k version test exposure.
Now I also got 2 Conroe-L CPU, they are 2.8G 1MB and 2.4G 512K version. I
just teal some free time in these 2 days to try some Conroe-L 2.8G
performance and overclock result.
The back of the CPU:
Up left side is Conroe-L 2.8G 1MB, down right side is E6300 1.86G 2MB.

2 of my different 975X boards can not support Conroe-L, maybe have to wait
a new BIOS to fix, ASUS announced their P5B new BIOS last week to support
Conroe-L, and my MSI P965 Platinum also can run Conroe-L smoothly.

Super PI and CPU MARK99,
Take a reference test number: Conroe-L 2.4G 512K is about 31 seconds.

The default test of Conroe-L test got great numbers indeed, 1MB version
seems will become the standard version, 512k version might define as Celeron
segment. But no matter Single-Core or Dual-Core, the performance all be
great with new architecture.
The overclocking test will coming soon!!

Hmm nice :)
I guess the 1mb is like the new celeron? Expected price?
Oh and temps?
Looks good. Consider me subscribed :)
EDIT: Do we have a price on these?

Subed....
Aaand like above, hows the temps, is there a wattage on the single cores yet? What voltage does it run? And wheres the OC :)

Hmm... 31secs for 2.8Ghz. I wonder how OCable they are.
If I remember correctly... Dothans running at 2.8Ghz get about the same results.

2.4GHZ 512kb model runs 31s, the 2.8 1mb runs at 23s.

cosidering my dothan 730 @2.4ghz does 30secs.

the celey-l with 512k doing the same is a big, imo.

thanks for sharing this WWM!
any chance of some OC results? :D

Not bad for the low end. I could never really stoop down to the Celey-level myself. I'm a snob :)
Though I did have a socket-A sempron processor at one point in time... that's because only sempron was available by that time.
Well... I'm more than making up for that now :)
Still, I think if I were to build a machine for my family these days (like I might have to do around christmas...) I'd probably go with the Pentium D 805 since it's less than a hundred bucks these days. To justify getting anything like the Conroe-L it would have to be even lower than that. Like 50 or 60 bucks.

The performance did have great enhance after overclock,
because it’s Single-Core, so the temp. is lower the Dual-Core processors.
Take a break and wait for further extreme testing.

i just realized, that 2800mhz "celeron" has a 14 multi at stock right? 14*200?
500fsb would = 7ghz.
WindWithMe, i'm guessing that oc is with stock cooling? what volts?
thanks for sharing!

The predicted price for the Conroe-L's will be sub-$180, and if they weren't, they wouldn't be much of a Celeron replacer ;).

Really with the price of the E6300 being around $150, I'd say the single core will be around $150 at first, but then drop down to around $100-120. Dual core is really nice to have when running multiple programs at once.

Keep the best in the last, the limited of this Conroe-L.
So far the 65nm Dual Core Conroe overclock limited is about 3.5G to 4GHz
due to the different produced week and quality.
http://img205.imageshack.us/img205/9422/38001ku0.jpg
When Conroe-L coming out, I think the frequency won’t be that high, might
be under 2GHz for Intel’s entry product segment, Conroe-L have great
availability with overclock, the temp. is also lower then Dual Core version, so
I think the overclock range is also about 3~4 GHz!
This time the test with many pictures, because the performance is great
when in the high overclock frequency. Believe or not, Conroe-L will push the
single Core processors into a better generation, let’s wait and see!
Announced some coming up test from Windwithme here!

Semi-rumor on a change in plans, sort of.

In a way I think it's good to push single cores to the budget segment, it will mean fewer single cores in mainstream joe schmoe systems which gives developers more incentive to take advantage of multicore.

Excellent job man...
Those Conroe-L cpu will spank the Semprons... Hope Intel can deliver them fast enough in entry level!
I will still buy AMD though
