View Full Version : Woohoo! Nvidia 680i
First review so far:
http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/showthread.php?t=122339
They are saying it does 500+fsb...And it has 2 PLLs, one for CPU FSB and one for mem clock. Interesting....
But what i dont understand is.... Top and bottom PCI-E are 16x while the middle is 8x...?
Ive been waiting for this sucker for AWHILE now....

Seems as if the recent boards' layout with multiple PCI-E 16x slots kind of screws anyone who wants to run 2 PCI cards and multiple graphic cards that take up more than one slot :(

FINALLY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
A good intel nvidia board.
Im getting 1 for sure.
you should wait untill other companys come out with the non factory versions, this one is factory standard. Wait for an extreme one from ASUS, or gigabyte, or the likes of that. Ill deffinatly get one of the 680i's though for my conroe build though.

Im not doing my CD2 build until January, due to funding. :bang head
So who knows what will be out by then. But that looks very promising.

Dunno, the review on Anandtech speaks of 2100Mhz FSB
/me wants to go conroe :D

Are these high FSBs really necessary if you aren't going phase/WC? The P5B-Deluxe already hits 500+ FSB. Of course this is always good for competition to bring down the price of these really expensive motherboards.

Very nice!! I'm definately waiting for the 45nm's now. Unless the current Conroe gear gets dirt cheap. I'm in the "must upgrade mobo for Conroe" situation now, and I think I'll just bypass. By the time I could afford this new NV, the 45nm's should be mainstream.

I hear that. Im totally impressed with my P5W-DH. I can't do without Matrix raid either after running my Seagate Perp. drives in Raid0!
That aside, this NVidia board looks awesome...If I were a serious overclocker/SLI user Id be all over it.

Oddly enough, this motherboard... as well as the G80 line of video cards, is already available here in paris. http://www.rue-montgallet.com/prix/75012/details/50692/eVGA-122-CK-NF68-AR/
Let's see... with this board and TWO g80s... I WOULD RULLLLLLLLE ALLLLLLL!

AFAIK the higher fsbs will be useful for cpus with lower multis where even 500mhz fsb might restrict the overclock. (ie cheaper conroes)

This outlook might actually end best off for someone who has a pretty good current system.
Man things are changing fast compared to the last few year's relative stagnation. This time next year there will be: 45nm C2Ds and single-die C2Qs, bearlake DDR3 chipsets, AMD K8L quad single socket and 4x4, at least one refresh of DX10 parts plus mid-range parts, perp drives from all makers...craziness I tell ya! :o

Well actually I guess the money thing WOULD be kind of an issue... I could not pay rent this month... not go home for christmas... and actually sell my computer to get that motherboard and the two video cards... Then I could temporarily RULE ALL!

were are the screen shots and validation links for these astounding overclocks :eh?:

The overclock results are not a mistake. We managed to reach right at 4.0GHz with an X6800 at 1.575V. This represented the standard 11x ratio at a 1452 FSB. Even more spectacular was the reduced multiplier overclocking, where we reached a 2100 FSB (525 base) at a 7X multiplier AT DEFAULT VOLTAGE.

What ram frequency and timings?
How would that compair to 975X at the same clocks and ram settings?
Its not like you see alot of 2M SPI run.
were are some compairble benchmarks.

i saw that and it was AMAZING.... i wonder what the max fsb is on that thing... doing 525 @ stock voltage.... i cant imagine what it would do with more voltage.... but its not like i need it.... MY 8800gts will be here at my house within the next coupla weeks.... im steppin up !!!!

There's already a guy here running the 8800gts on a 500w power supply! There's hope for me yet!

The reviews I've seen so far seem to show it's comparable to 975 in some cases and 965 in others. But they were all at stock speeds then there's a short 'overclocking results' section.
I would like to know how things compare at high FSB given the way it works on Intel's chipsets where high FSB can lead to 0 improvement because of internal chipset timings. Get one of the early adopters here to find out :)

I can't get their website to open atm, no idea what's up. I'll check it out though thanks. Good old crazy Russians at xbit always do really thorough reviews.

From the stock tests iv seen the chipset is faster then the 975x 965, by a good margin at stock.
But who knows, it could suffer from strapping problems at higher FSB, so we definently need to see this board in the hands of some of our SPI benchers.
wonder if Dom will mortgage his house to buy this MB.... ;)
Im waiting (again *sigh*) for the review of the abit 680i.
All but the xbit labs review showed real good FSB ocing with the nvidia reference design.
Plus the fact its got 2 plls, one for fsb and one for memory works out good.
Also the fact that this on a early bios release. The boards that eVGA has and is selling is just rebranded boards that nvidia made themselves. So I suspect nvidia to be responsible for the BIOs releases for the boards.

I dont know, but this is almost making me not wait for RD600.
Might turn to the darkside and go back to nvidia cause im so sick of waiting for ATI to play catch up.
urgh.... i feel dirty...

Just as an FYI, KINGPIN at xs is using this board with two 8800gtx's and hit 23000 in 3Dmark06. He now holds the record.

They look great, I was considering waiting for one but when I saw the prices, hell no. I will never spend $400 for a motherboard.. The Asus extreme striker is $400, you guys are still gonna get it for that kind of money?
Ill probably get getting the eVGA ( or XFX or whatever, nvidia reference design), its only 270 and should be lower by jan...
Prices will drop all around once everybody has a board out in the market to compete. Its only been 2 days since release.
