Sure you can. Might be really slow, but it'll run. :)

Naah, not really. KDE alone is happy to grab 62 Mb. RAM is cheap atm, but I imagine we're talkng about SIMMS if 16 Mb is what you have. SIMMS are amazingly expensive lately. Unsmiley face.

You can run a GUI, no problem. Just don't expect it to be absolutely glorious or blisteringly fast.

RAM is very cheap, so unless your mobo doesn't have the room you should just buy more.

Also KDE is very bloated, same with Gnome. It's fine if your system can handle it, but you might want something more light weight like blackbox. Very fast and uses little system resources. Of course it isn't as much eye candy or have as many options, but you can still run everything you want in it.

Probably Debian, Slackware, or Redhat, in that order. You would have to put some effort into stripping them down a little, i.e., don't install and run all the fancy desktop stuff.

Getting Linux to run *well* on a system like that would be motivational to learning the ins and outs of the OS.

It will also help you learn what you need to run and what you don't. Then when you put linux on a more capable computer you will be able to set it up so it runs at it's optimal.
