Yeah, it sucked anyway, but is this a shadow of things to come?
Programming problems?
Not enough PS3s on the market for it to be worth it?
Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm

That was the buggies game that I have ever played, EVER!

Just go watch the review at gametrailers.com and that should put things in perspective for you.

I think EA is pulling it back because they don't want to further humiliate themselves with the launch of PS3.

Hmmmmmm, indeed...

This is certainly saying something important, particularly coming from a company like EA.

Specifically, the game was apparently determined to be a financial loser for the company. Either a flat our loser, or a waste of resources compared to other available projects.

Reasons why are pretty obvious...there's just not going to be enough people to sell to on the platform at least before they're ready to release a 2008 game.

The interesting thing to consider is the chicken/egg side of things...consoles ultimately sell for the games you can play on them. Games are made for consoles because there's money to be made on the platform, which is very heavily affected by how many people have the console.

That might make sense until you remind yourself that this is EA a few times. :) They don't care if it's buggy, lame, half baked, our flat out lousy!!! The game hits the shelves and sells because it has a star basketball player pictured on the box and sound effects of John Madden yelling, "BOOM!!" over and over.

I read it but Atari and their founder has zero credit to criticize anybody. They were a one-hit-wonder with the 2600. Every thing else they touched turned to sh**, 5200, 7800, Jag, Lynx etc...

I just want to know why they pulled the plug.

Yep

They can pretty much take a piece of crap, put it in a game box and call it a game and it will still sell cause people are dumb enough to buy it. I always rent their games for the heck of it.

and that my friend is what A LOT of developers have been saying. That and complaining about the lack of RAM and short amount of time they've had the dev kits.

I will agree, being that it's EA and it's a sports game and they denied PS3 says something, good or not EA usually puts their sports games on everything possible.

I want to see 360 putting out some agressive advertising. Thats what they need to remind gamers.....hey you can actually buy one of these...because in all honesty that rubix cube commercial is pretty cool. Although I don't know what it means..are they saying the cell will explode like their laptop batteries?

The 360 has 512mb@700mhz 128bit system memory and 10mb embedded DRAM but uses shares system memory for graphics as well. The PS3 has 256mb RAMBUS XDR system memory and 256mb GDDR3@550mhz memory for graphics it can also share some of the system memory too.

Either way 256mb is an upgrade from 64mb (XBOX) and 32mb (PS2) to play with how much memory do these guys want.

Good info on the 360 here:

Man it sounds like Sony is missing the boat on this one. It looks as if Sony will be sailing the same ship as Sega lol.

Who the hell cares? After the lame version of Tony Hawk 8 on PS3 (not that the 360 version was much better) the LAST thing the PS3 needed was another lame launch game. There are already reviews for a couple of games up at Gamespot.

...and there are also plenty of ports already done (such as the aforementioned, and crappy, Tony Hawk.) So I sincerely doubt it has anything to do with programming. The guys that made that game couldn't have ported Pac-Man.

One lame EA sports game hardly makes a difference, true...that was even echoed in the oringinal post.

But, just that EA is passing a "major" console for their yearly NBA game is a powerful statement about a situation.

It's an easily ignored symptom. A rash that doesn't really itch and is in a normally unnoticed place. Sure, you can go on living a normal life and try to forget that it's there, but chances are you've picked up something bad and there might be worse things than the rash coming up.

Wow... I didn't know they were coming out with Oblivion for the PS3!

It would probably shut up a whole lot of people if it looked better on PS3 than the 360 or the PC...

I doubt if it could look better on the PC before DX10 is released... (It does look better on the 360 right now doesn't it?)

I haven't seen any comparisons between the 360 version and a G80... so maybe the next gen of graphics cards can probably beat the next gen of consoles... though I doubt they could do it with decent frame rates at 1080p...

Hey Fudge! You've got a 360. What's the verdict on Oblivion?

Hey Fudge! You've got a 360. What's the verdict on Oblivion?

It's not really my type of game, so my opinion it is probably not what the die hard RPGers would be, but I bought it because it was the first 360 "killer-app". My opinion on it is that the graphics are pretty, the game is fun at first and there are some really fun quests like "the Brotherhood" but the game is pretty easy, the dungeons are kind of all the same (there are like 3 varieties), the Oblivion world through the gates are easy and kind of all the same, the quests get dull because all you ever get is a meager-of-an-upgrade weapon or piece of armour. The main quest is VERY short and the game relies on all the side quests entertaining you. I wasn't very fond of it. I traded it in when I got Saint's Row.

Well I was actually talking about in terms of the graphics. You've got one of those 1080p televisions don't you? (I noticed the thread.) Do the graphics look superior on the 360 or computer?

John G
11-10-06, 03:02 PM
PC can already output superior graphics than the 360 in Oblivion, and it was pretty much the case at the time the game was released. However, it does require very expensive hardware in addition to doing your homework with drivers, patches, ini file tweaks, and determining optimal settings for your hardware.

The 360 is a fraction of the price of such a system and is pretty much put the game in and play.

Oblivion would still be a poor title to try to direct compare between the two consoles. There's too much time between the releases. There will be a lot of differences in the software and a lot more maturity in the later release. Picking simultaneously released titles would be better in general.

The 360 looks better than the PC version until PC users download the homebrewed texture pack and then IF they have the hardware to run it the PC version looks much better, but out of the box the 360 version looks better.

Thanks Fudge, that's exactly what I was asking

Yeah... even a PS3 would be cheaper than the computer/video card combo you would need to make the PC version look better... like MUCH cheaper.

And I would think the development time would even out considering it's supposedly harder to program for PS3... (somebody else said that, anybody want to back it up with a link or something?)

Though I'll concede the best way would be to test games made specifically for each system and released at the same time. (And not just a 360 game ported to PS3 or vice versa.)

I believe in an ign article they said they improved the landscape textures on the ps3 version because they have had more time to. As you can see from the picture http://media.ps3.ign.com/media/857/857879/img_3984478.html the terrain in the distance does look much better than the default 360, and pc game.

I agree, if those are indeed is a real PS3 screenshot, it looks nicer.
