View Full Version : I need a case fitting these requirements.

Ok, I am ready to go and get myself a new case to start out my water cooling quest. My first step is finding an adequate case for the job. here are my requirements:

dimensions:
58cm MAX height (57cm or less preferred for air flow)
27cm MAX width (25cm ideal for room for air flow)
about 43cm depth, but could be larger if needed

I need this so that it could fit into my computer desk and I don't feel like buying a new desk or moving the computer anywhere else.

bays:
room for TWO psus
at least 4 5 1/4" bays
at least 2 3 1/2 external bays and 2 internal

modding space: room for...
120mm fan in the lower front
120mm fan on the side to blow on pci and agp cards
120mm fan on the back behind the cpu
120mm fan on the top to blow up
92mm fan on the side around video cards

In addition, I am hoping to be able to mount a blackice xtreme radiator on the fan nearest the cpu, or the ceiling fan, or both in parallel (once I can afford two radiators).

I am hoping to be able to completely enclose the watercooling system in my case for easy transportation. This will involve a relatively small reservoir to preserve space, which I will build myself.

The second psu is for running the pump and fans or a peltier in the future. Speaking of peltiers, if I get myself a big old 24v peltier, would I be able to just mess with a couple molex connectors and run two in serial to hit 24v to run the peltier?

I have attached a quick drawing of what I need. The fans blowing into the case are blue and the fans blowing ot are red. The two smaller fans at the top are psu fans.

Does anyone know of a case that fits this description? The biggest problem I would see would be in getting the two psus into a case with limited height.

Why don't you make your own out of 3/8" Lexan or 1/4" aluminum panels?

That's the best mod one could ever hope to achieve, an awe-inspiring case from scratch.

And why do you need such a wide case? Almost every tower case is 205mm in width.

I've thought about that, but...oh wait...never mind. I was gonna say that I would need to build drive bay holders and stuff, but I have a mid tower case here that I won't be using once I get the other case!

Ok, where can I get some aluminum for making a case and how would I go about cutting it? I have pretty much NO tools. My sisters husband has a jig saw (which I used for my ducting mod on this rig) and my roommate has a dremel. What would I use for slicing up these sheets of aluminum?

I would go for lexan, but that would be too easy for mistakes to be easily seen.

Anyways, building my own case was the next thought, but I'm slightly low on time with school now. Finding a case that happens to fit my criteria would be far easier.

that is just the maximum width I could have and still be able to fit it in my desk. I didn't really need that much width, but I was unsure of what might be out there. I could always use a little extra room to squeeze in those 120mm fans on the side though...

I am so angry, words can't begin to describe it. I had a list complete with prices, sizes, PSU watts, colors, and a short bio for each one. I lost it ALL because *flippant remark* IE got an error and had to close.

UNBELIEVABLE.

So screw all the fancy *flippant remark* I had typed up before, I'm in NO mood to type all of it again.

Beige Antec SX1030 (http://www.directron.com/sx1030.html) or Black (http://www.directron.com/sx1030b.html)

Coolermaster ATC-201 (http://www.coolermaster.com/products/atc/atc201.html)

Any of the Lian-Li cases here (http://www.lian-li.com/ENGLISH/p2-1.htm)

These Enermax cases, which are identical to the Antec ones above (http://www.enermax.com.tw/PRODUCTS/FS-710.HTM)

lol:p Thanks for the help! (it may be your basic microsoft flame, which makes it legal, but you might want to tone down the anger and replace it with a few  's before it gets edited for you)

Sure, but you quoted me saying what I removed from above. Can you edit your post accordingly?

"Suitable for PSII or PSIIş redundant power "

I'm not completely sure what this means, but it was mentioned in a couple of the case descriptions

Tell me that means I can squeeze a second power supply into there! I've got a 320 watt supply in my computer now and want another in the future for pelt use.

I don't know. Most tower cases don't have a specific place for a second PSU. You could easily stick a second PSU in your 5.25" drive bays, or even in the bottom of your case (Or the very top for that matter). There are articles here in the forums detailing how to wire up parralel PSU's.

Ooh! I think I found one! It fits my height requirement, has 5x5 1/4" bays, and has room up top to mod the case and fit a second psu!

http://www.chenbro.com.tw/products/pc.asp

the model number is pc503. I'm thinking I would want the Mars front bezel for ease of modding.

Nice indeed! I think i've changed my mind. Screw the Antec SX1030 SOHO. I'm going for the PC50318 (Coral)!

The only problem is that occursed 300W PSU... I don't see Chenbro on AMD's list of PSU's, not even for a Duron 600, let alone an AThlon 1900+. It doesn't even say what brand of PSU they use!

Ahh...but off of newegg.com, that company has some mid-tower cases for about 50 bucks. That thing would most likely be around 80 or so. I've already got a 320watt psu in my current case that handles the rig in my sig. That 300 watter would do fine running fans and a water pump. By the time I'm ready for a pelt, I should be able to afford a better psu.

Oh, And the area code their US place is 909, which is Southern CA in case you wanted to know. I may not even need to pay for shipping:D

I didn't look at their number, but guessing by their area code, I'd say Pomona or Covina. (Probably Pomona)

I wouldn't pay shipping either.
