Hi I have just found out about what appears?? to be a good deal on the MSI 7900gto (yes i live in a cave:rolleyes: ). I currently have an ati X800^2 card which runs ok but nothing spectactular. So would it would be a good idea to upgrade to the 7900 GTO. I realise at the moment the new 8800 cards have come out and dx10 is not too far away but I will never have over £200 to spend on a gfx (cave drawings just don't sell like they used to) and I tend to wait for the great deals to come along on the slightly older card (thus the X800^2). So what I would like to know is do you reckon it is a worthwhile upgrade (the card is £170 here in the uk) and if so what kinda difference can I expect? Also I tend to run a max resolution of either 1280 x 1024 or 1440 x 900 do I need a card with 512 ram or will 256 be more than enough?

Thanks for any help you can give me, I am not very clued up when it comes to these kinda things and don't tend to know much about the best time to buy parts.:)

Well if you want a new graphics card with around $300 to spend, you can forget about the GF8 series, cause you aren't getting one for that price in a long time.

Still, the 7900GTO (or better said 7900GTX) should be a great upgrade from a x800 card. I went from a x800gt (8pp), and the difference was just huge. The games that would chug @ 25fps now run @ 60fps with this card.

Yeah thats what I figured and although some might say save your money and put it towards an 8800 it's never realistically gonna be in my price range in the near future.
