You get your best performance from overclocking via raising the fsb. Even with the locked multiplier on the XP, it will be the better of the two - if you overclock by raising the fsb and not the multiplier.

I certainly agree, and have proved this to myself, but so many people have told me that seti is a cpu intensive proggy. For example, I asked about using a Ramdrive, and was told it wouldn't help? Maybe I missed the point. Does anyone know excactly how Seti affects each component in the system?

seti is concerned with processing
therefore the components that affect speed most are the memory, the cpu and the mobo/chipset
cpu for processing
memory for storing the data to crunch
and the mobo for transferring and controlling

thats my take on it

I've noticed a pretty good difference in how memory bandwidth alone helps it out.

I have an 8K7A+ with 512MB and a TBird 1.4 overclocked to 1.66GHz on 166Mhz bus. Also an 8KHA+, 256MB PC2100 AND a 1.4GHz overclocked to 1.6GHz on a 160MHz bus.

Considering the more powerful KT266a chipset and more bandwidth it carries with it, I average right at a 20 minute better average WU time on that than I do the AMD761 chipset 8K7A+.

Average for the 8K7A+ is 4h7m and for the 8KHA+ is 3h47m. Pretty big difference if you consider the clock speed comparison and the already fairly low completion times.
