I was reading up on the blunder than Nintendo Magazine UK made saying that it will. I was also reading that Nintendo, will release some more secrets about the Wii closer to release day. If it does, I'm gonna go stand in line right now!

* I was thinking about this the other day, and came to the conclusion that it very well can out put in 720i/720p. Since it's already been out for a while, and probably not a super expensive option.

According to Gamespot there will be NO MORE secrets revealed about the Wii. According to Nintendo all their cards are already on the table. People are already playings Wiis in stores. So "No."

No 720p.

According to my digging and googling, the best the Wii can do is 480i/480p

Sorry, brother.

Yup 480i/480p has what we've been all hearing but if theres a chance of 720i or 720p it would be limited games due to the limit of ram on the console.

Is 480P "DVD Quality?"

I love widescreen format, it's the only way movies should be viewed. :D

I just looked up the Wii specs:
480p_60 (16:9 60fps), 720i_30 (16:9 interlaced 60fps visible)may be later supported.
Dolby Digital 5.1 Surround
DVD playback capable, compatable with 12cm and 8cm disks.
Looks !

So 720i may be coming for it?

I as watching a video stream on gamespot and one of the nintendo guys at the booth almost splurted out 720i when he was stating that it was 480p60 16:9 and 7..i.. and the stopped himself from saying any more.
I have been hearing little leaks here and there that the console could easily run 720 i or p, and it would take no more then a small software upgrade to do so... so who can be shure.

Also, I LOL'd when I heard that the Wii has 5.1 Dolby Digital HD... the little thing has an encoder as powerful as the 360's, but it's more for clarity and quality, it's not the 128 channel monster the PS3 and 360 have.

Future upgradability to 720 would be nice little added bonus for the future I likey.

We're all ears here. I hope something concrete comes out this week......

It is concrete, Nintendo said they had a couple of big surprises and they turned out to be 1.DVD playback on some Japanese units and 2.Twilight Princess at launch (1 month prior to the GC version).

I read an article that said the Wii's underlying OS runs on a proprietary Linux kernel, and with the, what was it, WiiConnect? A service that runs connected to the net 24/7? Anyways, with it being Linux running this thing (which is badanus to begin with) and a 24/7 connected service from Nintendo, who says they can't slip some sort of update to our systems one day that upgrade the support to 720? ;)
Don't ya just love Nintendo? ^_^
I'm counting down the days till the Wii comes out and I'm all ready to get one.

Depends on how far you are sitting from the TV.

6' or < = bad

7' or > = decent

Unfortunately, nobody knows what the Linux Wii kernel is based on. Just that it's a proprietary kernel.

I'm sure they have lots of stuff up their sleeves, but nobody but Nintendo's bigheads really know for sure.

Lol.. The only reason Krome is asking this question is that he wants to hook up the Wii into his not so Wii monitor. :-)

I just read an article somewhere (sorry but I can't find the link now) stating that the Wii looked like garbage on Monitors or HDTVs without the component cables, but looked great on regular TVs. When I played it at Eaton Center it looked good, but I couldn't tell what kind of LCD it ws on. It was on a Samsung LCD at EB Games when I played it the second time and looked good, so they must've had it hooked up via component.

... what's with all the anti Wii and PS3 console craps... it's Composite VS Component, of course Component is going to be better.

Whatchootalkinbout Willis? I love the Wii!!!! The PS3 on the other hand...... I've had 3 faulty PS1s and 2 faulty PS2s and MANY of the dicisions Sony has made has left me and MANY others very bitter and upset with them. I'm trying to call them as I see them, but I've seen very little good with the PS3, when there is then I tend to post the good as well, there just hasn't been much. The news that you CAN replace the battery in the controller was good though, IMO.

I will not see this thread degrade due to a misunderstanding. Get it together.

Just a one mans opinion.

I had two PS1 and currently I'm not sure but I think I have three PS2's and one PS2 slim and never had a single problem.

I had two broken 360's. That doesn't give me a reason to bash it every chance I get.

OP's question has been answered, and my warnings have not been heeded. This thread is done.
