I've just built a new system and can't update the ATI X1950pro driver. First here are the stats.
Coolermaster Praetorian case
Antec Truepower Trio TP3-650
Intel D979XBX MB
Conroe E6600 proc
Corsair Twin 2x2048-6400
Western Digital WD3200KS 7k 16M cache
X1950pro
Sony DRU-820A DVD R/W
Windows XP home OEM SP2

The current driver is Catalyst 6.9 ver.8.291. rel date 8/22/06. There is (1) newer release, 6.10. When I try to update I get a Severe message window that states: " Setup did not find a driver compatible with your current hardware or operating system. Setup will now exit"

When I close this box I get the next severe mesage: "Setup was unable to complete the installation. Try to setup your display adaptor with a standard VGA driver before running setup".

I did what was suggested and still the same messages pop up. Anyone else have this problem?
Please help

What I did was uninstall the drivers for 6.9 and uninstall the rest of the things. yeah. sorry for the lackluster information, but that's what I did.

Thank you for your suggestion, however it did not work. I removed every reference to ATI through add/remove programs, reverted to the windows std VGA driver and then tried installing the whole Catalyst package vs just the driver pkg. I got the same message as before," Setup did not find a driver compatible with your current hardware or operating system. Setup will now exit"
Ver 6.9 which came with the card installs just fine. It's as if ATI forgot to include the X1950pro in Cat 6.10 since it does not recognize the card!

BTW, this CAt 6.10 installed ok on my other machine containing an older Radeon9800

Well, I'm sorry to hear that. V. 6.9 is a real bugger, just google it and you'll see it causes lockups. It happened to me. I tried putting v. 6.10 in, but to no avail. I ended up having to completely rebuild my computer. Oh well.

There is currently a special driver available for download for 1950 Pro users, but I'm not sure what version of Catalyst it is. It worked fine for my card though.

The link is right above the main DLs

I believe those drivers are the ones that come with the CD, aka 6.9. I am having the same problem when updating my drivers. I just recently got the Sapphire x1950 Pro. I hope that ATI/AMD fixes this soon.

The new catalyst 6.11 drivers should work on the x1950 pro's now.
