Neither...the newer model of the swiftech came out. I have seen 3 reviews so far from cluboc, frostytect, and oc cafe and they all have said it beats the old swifty and alpha out. Even better they made it so it fits all four mount motherboards with the new design. Heres the product link:MCX462-B (http://www.sidewindercomputers.com/mcx462b.html)

Heres some reviews:
Cluboc (http://www.cluboverclocker.com/reviews/heatsinks/swiftech/mcx462/index.htm)
Frostytech (http://www.frostytech.com/articleview.cfm?articleID=876)

Thanks for the links to the reviews. Been wanting to read about them if the smaller ribbed pins give a boost in performance.

the swiftech is slightly cooler and is easier to mount, i think that answers it

Thanks 'the overclocker'. Does water cooling seem to be a better solution ?

If it is only between these 2, get the Alpha as it performs better than the old swiftech, but not better than the new MCX462.

The old Swiftech MC462 and alpha 8045 are about the same cooling. The swiftech is more $$, but for that you're getting a better quality finishing. The alpha's are notorious for needing lapping, the swiftech's are smooth... If you don' mind paying less and lapping the alpha by hand, then go ahead.. If you you want to have a better turn-key Heatsink, go Swiftech.

Now, the new swiftech is supposedly cools even better..so you're call.

Alphas are 29.99 +4 dollars shipping at SVC add a fan for a couple bucks extra and you save about 40bucks over the swifty for nearly the same performance.

Water cooling is a better solution, because of its superior heat transfer qualities that make it far better for convection that air. However, you should still have at least one fan in order to keep the ambient temperature down. The downside of water cooling is that if a leak develops, you're screwed.

Hmm, will there be condensation if I were to use water-cooling with peltier ?. Anything to stop it from condensing ?
