Seems that there will be a Wii console about next year that can play DVD's the software company Sonic Solutions who creates Roxio CD/DVD Burning ROM have been put in charge.

Obviously there will be 2 versions then the DVD 1 been slightly higher in price me thinks and available if you want to play DVD's as well as the just plain gaming version. Sonic Solutions say the DVD Wii will be out by latter half of 2007.

Yeah, I caught that. If it was out for Japan, I guess they should release it for North America, too.

Meh. Like I've said before, I have 3 devices that already play DVDs. If they all break at the same time, I can buy a new one from Wal-mart for $30. It's not going to be worth the extra ducats.

Is this a hardware problem or software? Couldn't they just update them via a patch?

Clearly they don't think so. The DVD-enabled version is also going to cost more.

They may have not installed a decoder chip or something, and now they have to go back and install it. I'm not going to lose much sleep over it.

would be nice, my tv has two component inputs and my xbox is in one and my DVD player is in the other...I was hoping this would be a software add on.

The people who made Roxio are in charge? Awesome. I still need to thank them for corrupting my OS beyond repair.. twice.

Yeah a dvd player in the Wii is useless, Roxio just makes it an all out cry to avoid that unit for me.
