this happened today and i couldn't help but think of the poor chap who claimed his brothers finger was axed off by a panaflow fan ...

i'm only posting to the watercool setup cause that's where the guy initially posted.

i was adjusting a spot cool fan that cools my RAM and <WHAM> my knuckle got into the arc of the silverstone FM121 120mm fan that i've got attached to my heatsink.

it almost tickled a bit:

red badge of courage!

the heatsink using that particular fan is viewable from my sig.

:)

anyway. there's no way a computer fan is going to whack off a guys finger.

lol.

No w in Panaflo. So did the Panaflo or the Silverstone get you?

Looks like a Neosporin moment...

it was the silverstone fan; i think it's a bit higher cfm/rmp than the panaflow but not sure. i know it's got some nasty points on the fan blades, though ...

:)

Bah! Could you make that a link... or at least a disclaimer? Jeez..

c'mon man ... in the infamous finger thread, the *only* thing *anyone* wanted to see was some proof. "post a picture!", "we need proof", etc.

well ... here it is; the chopped off finger thread, although albietly closed ... has been officialy *debunked*.

(besides ... your personal avatar is way more pornographic than my image is inappropriate. but that's just me ...)

:)

You would need somthing TOUGH to take you're whole finger off.

I took a high speed fan out of my dell, put it on 12V, and it could lift itself up. I purposfully stuck my finger in it; Didn't even draw blood.

Pfft.... Thats ketchup.

Nice try thing.

Im kidding, nice one.

funny.

it definitely is real. i actually have about 10 other shots from different angles ... but won't post them on the chance maverick might blow chunks. :)

when it happened, the only thing i could think was "OH MY GOD! IT'S LIKE THAT BUNK PANAFLOW THREAD ON OCFORUMS! OH MY GOD! ... (and it's only a little nick!). too funny.

working on my system while it's running is a bit sketchy at best as there's no shroud on the silverstone fan ... just a big, toothy, 2400rpm bit of loveliness. it's actually a really nice 120mm fan if you don't mind 40db at max.

what are people using these days? 110v AC fans with razor blades as fins?

No no, new improvements in fans have been made by the inclusion of high carbon steel katana blades instead of traditional thermoplastic.

and this is what they look like.

actually ... when running ... the main cpu fan *does* sort of look like a lawnmower blade.

when i first modified that cpu sink everyone was saying ... whoa! watch your fingers man! now i know why; those points are nasty.
