Well I have the chance to get a ES E6700 for 450 and I was just wondering the benefits of ES chips for the C2D. Do they clock higher or run better, I have never really looked into them but it seems that some of the highest clocks were on ES chips.

Thanks

In fact, you might actually get higher clocks by buying retail, as retail have newer steppings. Moreover, people who OC'd ES usually used extreme cooling/high voltages.

Don't quote me on that, but I think some have unlocked multis...

I had an ES, it was a pretty average clocker. Most of the newer retail procs would easily trump it. The price on the one you're looking at is pretty good though. B1 ESes generally run a bit hotter, but clock a bit better at lower voltages. All in all, there's nothing very special about them either way. If you can find a cheaper retail, I'd go with that, if not, take the ES. (If its older than B1, don't bother with it)
