Performance hit with SBlive 5.1!?

Since I've installed this sound card earlier today games which normally get 80 to 100fps now dip into the 20s.

I don't really want to remove it but has anybody been through this successfully?

What were you using for sound before? The onboard AC'97?
Were you using EAX or some other kind of 3D positional audio in games or just 2D sound?

Sometimes on older 3D souncards, enabling 3D sound in recent games, particularly on high quality settings can give a big performance hit unless you have a beefy CPU (or sometimes even with one).

Try playing about with the game sound settings, or if there aren't any/many try and find a tweaking guide that includes sound settings. http://www.tweakguides.com is pretty good.

Figured it out. AC-3 decoder was enabled. Now CS is getting 120+ fps and GTR2 is around 80 to 90.
