I was looking at some pics of people's inline watercooling setups and saw some with an air bubble trap ator near the bottom of the system, with the waterblock being the highest point in the system.
Can any air bubbles in the system make it past the waterblock and be pumped DOWN to the bubble trap?

yes, but, in my experience, not very well/easily

air bubles only flow down when they are in a substance less dense then air, i think the people with traps at the bottem are hoping the air bubles will already down their or they turn it when they are removing the air

Well I've tried it in both places and It doesn't make any difference. If you use someting like water wetter then the bubles flow around in the water. The reason for these devices is simply to allow the bubles to escape as they flow past. One other word of caution don't use to big of a water pump it will keep the water in a constant froth and the bubles will never be able to escape.
