I've used Mercury Mail Transport System (http://www.pmail.com/overviews/ovw_mercury.htm) and it worked fine. It's free.

That looks very interesting.

I will have to check into that.
I had been thinking of setting up a mail server using zimbra but this looks a whole lot easier.

who is hosting your forum? they should have SMTp's

if it is locally and your running Windows XP PRO or windows 2k PRO or windows server - they all include an POP/SMTP server that can be set up easily enough.

Just looked at hmail. It looks very nice. I'll definitely give that a spin next time I need a mail server.

If you download the open source of Big Apache. it contains a couple mail server protocols including mercury.
Its free. I can get you the link or host it on my server, i think its about 200MB

If you are running a Linux or Unix-based server, QMail is my favorite.
