hey all im a newbie : )

Well i thought since its expensive to buy these Ghz pocessors i would just overclock my existent intel celeron processor until i get the $$$ for a better one

i finally know how to overclock cause of the tutorials on this site, but havnt tried it yet, you think its a good idea to do so myself?

my intel celeron is 133 mhz right now, cause its an old PC (got it about the time windows 98 came out) anyone overclock one of these?could really help me,

and one last Q that i didnt see on this sites cool tutorials things, how do you increase power when you overclock so it's stable

?.....I don't ever recall hearing of a 133 MHz Celeron....unless I've overlooked something big, the earliest Celerons were cacheless 266es and 300s....are you sure it isn't a 333 or 433?

i remember seeing a celeron sticker on my tower, but i also remember seeing pentium 2 in the my computer system information thing....

Hmm...even PIIs started at 233MHz.... When you first turn the computer on, there may be an information screen that flashes by. Type of CPU, brand of motherboard, maybe, etc. Push the Pause key on your keyboard when it flashes by to freeze it there, and jot down some info if you can find it. Otherwise, go to the Setup menu (usually by holding down either Del or F10) when this screen flashes by. You can usually find some useful information there. When you know what kind of motherboard and CPU you have, we'll have a good starting point then. Good luck!

What OS are you running? If it's windows, right click on My Computer and click on properties, it will tells you what cpu you have.

download a program called SiSoft Sandra, and it will accurately tell you what cpu you have, and it has lots of benchmarks and other things to test your speeds

where can i download that program?

good news, i was mistaken my precessor is a Pentium II 266 Mhz, it also says MMX technology or some thing like that, dunno what that means

to overclock dont you just go into the bios screen by pressing delete and startup?then go to change the FSB setting?i didnt see that anywhere, anybody help me please?

Overclocking your CPU might be even a little more simple than modifying the FSB in BIOS. Check the documentation on your motherboard. If you have an old enough PII, the multiplier may still be unlocked. I ran into my share of 233 and 266 PIIs while working at 3M whose multipliers were unlocked - the flick of a DIP switch on the ole' HP Vectras' motherboard, and boom...instant PII 300!

Otherwise, BIOS is your safest bet - what kind of motherboard are you working with? To find out, you can run system information scans out of SiSoft SANDRA. It's available at Downloads.com.

There are jumpers around the cpu.. Up the FSB a lil and try to change the multiplier..

And see if you can remove the heatsink off and apply some better thermal paste just to be a good side of heat conducting and stuff..

Good Luck.

mmx is 37 (im not 100% sure) extra instructions on the cpu just for multibedia like graphics and sound.

whoah, so i have to fiddle with some things on the CPU?what does the multiplier switch look like?and how to change the FSB?

sorry for all this trouble
