I bought my mini a good year or 2 ago.

And the battery now lasts less than 1 hour after being fully charged. It seriously dies out really quickly. I use it once and then next time I try to turn it on, the battery is dead and it needs recharging.
Can I do somethign to get it replaced/ have them send me a new one?

And I would say "Yes!" Apple has a RIDICULOUSLY awesome warranty. I had a friend in Tokyo that had like a three or four year old ibook that was dying on her, and she had the extended warranty or something. And they sent her the all new imac that had just come out that year... and she was from San Francisco and they mailed it to Tokyo!

So yeah... you probably have a good shot.

and Apple (http://www.apple.com/support/ipod/service/faq/) says:

Oh... my bad. I missed that. I thought he was talking about a Mac Mini not an ipod mini.

You can buy third party batteries and replace them yourself for less than a third of what Apple charges. Just be sure to get one that comes with the little tool that makes opening the case easier.

Here is one example, there are tons out there:
