Would i loose performance from my HDs if i made them both masters of their own channels and put my dvd and cd-rw as slave to them?

my drives actually perfrom best when HD is master of channel and CDROM is slave on same channel. My HD gets a bit slower when there isn't any CDROM as slave, believe it or not!

really?!
i made never any test but tried always to leave the hd alone on its own channel. now i have it as the primary master and the cdrom as the secondary slave, nothing else but the floppy.
if anyone else who have already tested this could post something about difference on performance would be mostly appreciated.
thanks a lot.,

yeah, i did some tests with HDTach and it was faster for me that way. I have a Pro133 chipset, BTW.

nowadays I really don't trust HDTach too much, it's doing weird things on my new system. I have to test it agin using this ATTO thing Jon linked me. I'll let ya know what happens-

ok thanks.
i just took a look at my motherboard manual now and it says not to install ultradma 66/100 devices to the second ide connector, to use them always as master or slave on the primary channel. its a CUV4X-E (Pro 133A), is it possible the lost on performance be caused by this?

I tried slaving a CD-rom drive to my Harddrive and it lowered my performance. My SiSoft Sandra scores with a Hard drive by itself as Master was 20980. With a CD-rom slaved to it, it was 14800. A significant loss in performance!!!!
