Yes, this is the console WarRoom.

Wii Vs. Playstation 3 Vs. Xbox 360
- Pros.
- Cons.
** Thoughts.
I've played all 3, I've played the 3 current "Killer Apps" that these consoles have out and have played around with all of them.
The Wii:
- Small, fun, %100 backwards compatable and some more, an advanced control scheme that really makes the games feel more immersive when the developers pull it off correctly.
- It's weak, awkward in many hands, the graphics are horrible and are not even being pushed anywhere near the little thing's full potential.
** Needs better apps, not ports. Could use better firmware. But the controls are pretty damn good IMO, I was expecting it to be hard to even use the menu with that thing... but I can even type fairly well with it. The email feature, Mii, Browser, and Wii sports are a bonus too.
The Playstation 3:
- Basically a 360 in many ways... hardly any more powerful, larger HDD, 1080p capable, BD-ROM. Has a few more features vs. the 360. You can install an OS in a PS3.
- $599, the games will rarely be higher then 720p, basically a platform to market Blu-Ray.
** Perfect if you can't afford a $1400 computer... I'm no longer having regrets on buying a 360... I was expecting it to get pwned by the PS3. The hardware is horrible for a console, and developers are hating it.
The Xbox 360:
- It's a... powerful console... great hardware that's very suiting for it's purpose.
- Fire... yes it does do that sometimes...
** I own a 360 and don't have much to say about it, it's a solid, affordable powerhouse that ended up to be better then I originally thought.
And to anyone who thinks the PS3 will destroy the 360... I thought it would... but I belive I'm standing corrected.
P.S. The "Cell" processor is just a marketing name for a PowerPC chip with 1 core and 7 SPEs(basically acting as calculators or routers) The PS3 processor was originally a high-scale server platform processor, but it was later rejected because even though it's benched performance seemed extremely high, it's real work performance is actually... ~average.
Kudos to M$, this is the best thing they've ever made. (yes that was a minor insult towards windows)
Yes, but judging from your descriptions, I'd say your a XBOX 360 fan... Am I correct?
I'd say the PS3 once the bugs are worked out. As it IS more powerful than the XBOX 360, hands down, as well as Blu-Ray, etc.
Btw, I heard that PS3 games will be in Blu-Ray format.... Is this true?! o_O

Right now the PS3 is the loser for sure, when all the kinks are worked out, and the prices go down a bit, it's going to come out on top.
The Wii..Im still skeptical. It might be the revolution or it might now.
The XBOX 360...really good, if they release some better titles on it.
Yes, but judging from your descriptions, I'd say your a XBOX 360 fan... Am I correct?

I'm more of a Nintendo fan. I said the 360 was a piece-o-crap that was a fire hazard... I got a 360 for free... it caught on fire after going on a gameing binge on it a week later... I got it replaced... and I'm enjoying it.
The PS3's CPU is much more powerful (theroretically) but the GPU is actually less powerful by a percentile.
All PS3 games will be in BD-ROM format to reduce copyright infringement, most PS3 games actually can easily fit on a dual-layer DVD accroding to many developers.

I think they are all winners, each serve their purpose. The Wii offers a few new ideas with the new controller, the 360 has a great line-up of games and 3rd party support, the PS3 has blu-ray (although I prefer HD-DVD).
If I had to choose right now it would be the 360, followed by the Wii then the PS3.

Wii
-Pros: It's Nintendo. And nintendo is pretty much gauranteeing availabilty. The systems... except for the ones that are DOA (there's already at least one person on this forum with one) should be rock solid and built to last based on every nintendo system AFTER the NES. It's main 1st party hits have a rabid cult following.
-Cons: It's Nintendo. So you can expect extremely stupid decisions in terms of the overall direction of the console. This includes, but is not limited to, having absolutely no online vision, underwhelming graphics, not enough storage space on the disc. No DVD playback for the system (which isn't necessary for a console, but did they really need anymore disadvantages?) All these factors will make developers less likely to want to program for the system. And if you think developers are having a hard time programming for the PS3? HOHOHO! Wait til they themselves have to flail their arms around for twenty hours a day to make sure their game is working on the Wii.
PS3
Pros: It's Sony. They have the largest installed user base in the world. Backwards compatible with both PS2 and PS3 and an entire galaxy of Greatest hits games. Sony's online vision is picking up. They won't be able to pick up where they left off like Microsoft, but I do expect in a years time that their rival system will be up and running and it will also be free. I also don't believe Microsoft's nonsense about not needing HD-DVD or Bluetooth for games. I suspect in two year's time you'll be seeing both Bluetooth AND HD-DVD games just like you started seeing DVD games (remember Onimusha and the rest of the IMPACT ZONE on PS2?) a year and a half after that system launched. They never really delivered on the promise of DVD with the last generation (remember "The Bouncer"? You could select both the language and the subtitles for the game. You SHOULD be able to do it for any game since whatever the original language was is already there) here's there chance to make up for that. Just because the first generation... hell... the first DAY of PS3 games looks like the current "best their is" of 360 games does not mean that the PS3 is "barely better" than the 360. You wait and see what the PS3 has by this time next year vs. what the 360 will have.
-Cons: Sony is in a horrible mess financially. They've also been publically embarassed all year long. I don't doubt the new system is difficult to program for. And it will take a lot of imagination in order to show its full potential. Hopefully this is where Sony's inhouse team will shine. If they don't have anybody that can get the job done inhouse, then they'll have to buy somebody like Microsoft bought Bungie. Turned into a wise investment for Microsoft. Here's hoping Sony chooses wisely as well.
360
-Pros: BUCKS GALORE! The best overall online vision to date. A one year head-start which means they already have a year's worth of titles. Tripping over 360s all over the place. No standing in line... no backorders. You can stop reading this and go get one right now. Graphics nearly on par with what the PS3 can do at the moment.
-Cons: That whole "KEEP PAYING FOR THE GAME" mentality. Well... that's mostly EA. But Microsoft's slightly guilty as well. You're paying for the game... and live... and then addons for the game... and then the live arcade... But now that the kinks are worked out of the 360s armor it really doesn't have much going against it besides the fact that the Japanese still treat it as the ******* offspring of some American whino. Halos 3 is coming, but I haven't heard anything about any new Ninja Gaiden. Gears of War doesn't do it for me. And right now that's their only killer App. It actually looks like a year after its release the 360 is still being bombarded by ports.
Clear winner: Too early to tell.
The PS3 might be hard to program for... but they've got more developers than Microsoft and Nintendo put together. They also have a larger installed base. On the other hand it'll be at least 365 days before they get any use of them. Between the DOA PS3s and the DOA Nintendo's... I'd say your safest bet this holiday season would be a 360. It would give you something to do during the next year while the other two get their s*** together. You should even be able to get a decent penny for it if you decide to sell it next christmas.
I don't think that will be the case for the Wii. I could already get a used cube for well under a hundred bucks a year after it was released. You'd be lucky to be able to do better than that with a Wii. I still say they're relying TOO heavily on those damned gimmick controllers. That's seriously the ONLY thing the system has going for it. Their inhouse titles are strong... but inhouse titles are few and far between. Better to have Rockstar, and Konami, and Namco, and a half a dozen other publishers around to take up the slack. In between your S.O.C.O.M.s and your God of War's you'll have your Tekkens, Grand Theft Autos, Hitmen, Gran Turismos, and Metal Gear Solids. In between your Halos you'll have your Gears of War, and... well... all those damned EA sports games and other ports. But you will be connected!
Nintendo is just setting themselves up for dead LAST once again. It's sort of sad that that's their entire company policy. I expect sales will be strong around Christmas time... but boy are people gonna be p***** when they find out Red Steel sucks. And then what? the long wait for the next metroid or Mario... or smash brothers. Meanwhile the 360 and PS3 will be cranking out more and more games every month now that there's direct competition again.
And people aren't going to stop to take the time to fiddle around with those controllers.
This is just one man's opinion of course.

If the Nintendo Wii has 100% backwards compatibility, I'd say that's a major advantage over PS3 and Xbox360.
The 360 has been out for nearly 2 years and the two games I want to play are STILL not updated to play on the 360 (Mech Assault, Mech Assault 2: Lone Wolf.)
Pros on the 360:
1. VGA out, can hook up to monitors for up to 1080p.
2. Nice graphics (Gears of War is so pwetty.)
3. Currently is the most developed console out of the three... not many surprises, excellent availability.
Cons on the 360:
1. Noise level - the pair of 60mm fans... ok that's loud... but what's louder? The HD seeking and the DVD-rom drive. When those are active they're louder than my projector(120mm lowspeed delta and transformor hum) and gaming rig(120mm low speed delta, PSU 120mm fan, 36gb raptors) combined!
2. Backwards compatibility - games are still being worked on... very slowly...
3. Load times - Games take longer to load than my PC.
4. Controls - 360 is supposed to be a PC-killer. Too bad most games don't give you the option to completely remap your controller to your style of gaming.

Well the PS3 and 360 all have games that have a great probability of being ported to the PC while the Wii offers a different gaming experience. So I naturally like the Wii more because it takes me away from my computer "console". However, it doesn't have a very auspicious beginning because all the titles look ugly. I'll have to actually play it a little more in order to get a full understanding.

The Wii is really in a different catagory than is the Xbox360 or the PS3. Its price point and the way the games are being sold cater to non-gamers and causal gamers, or hardcore gamers with a PC.
For me its simple, the Wii is very unique in its gameplay, the fact that its graphics are on the low-end doesnt bother me since I have a $2,500 PC. If i want high res ill just go play it.
The experience is what I paid for when I bought the Wii.

Still... backwards compatability... very important.

Well I've had my chacne to test drive all of them don't own any yet still a toss up for me weather which one is better or not. But lets start it off.
PS3
Pros: Definatly has power and capibilites inside it. Not only can it play games and Movies (HD ones) it can also hook up to the PSP and use that as well. Basically for the most part a mini computer in my book. Games demo's at least so far seem cool graphics are there but definatly not showing its full potential yet, wish they would of had warhawk for a demo on a system.
Cons: Its expensive, the most expensive console out to date. Thats truely about the only major con I see, oh ya having to hook up the controller to the unit to charge, hopfully they will have another way of doing that. Motion controller idea is cool but the question is how well it can be used.
Wii
Pro: Small and well damn small. Can play older console games on it. Definatly an inovative controller scheme. Cheapest of them all. Nintendo is trying to break out of its thinking and trying to hit the new market of people so give them props for going to that length.
Con: While its not suppose to be competeing graphic wise thats where its going to hit from alot of people. No one really knows how well this controller is going to take off and how people will react to it. As others have said seems cool now but that novelty might wear off.
X360
Pros: Has been out for a while so more extensive library of games out currently. A power house just like the PS3. Plays older Xbox games, might not be alot right now but more coming.
Cons: Doesn't come with wireless built in (another $100 unit doh), as well the harddrive size doesn't seem that large compared to what PS3 is sporting. It has a heating issue if not in a ventilated space, but as well some say its noisey (since all are behind a case its hard to tell personally).
IMO
Saying that price isn't a matter. I personally would love a PS3 but truely when I even owned the PS2, there was few games that I enjoyed on that system. Owning a PSP I'd see a nice little advantage using it with the system but really not one to get it.
Wii is sweet but im affraid that the controller style would get old quick with me. I love new things but im torn about that. Graphics are iffy I mean I do own a Xbox currently but Wii will be similar to it, so its not really a gain in that area unless the games are good and there are a few games for it that I'd love to play (old and new).
X360 now on the other hand downside no HDTV so I can't use it to its fullest yet I do have a monitor upstairs at least I can use to have high res. Games look very promising and alot I'd be very intrested thats out already or coming out in the near future. Truely out of the 3 this tops the system I'd want, with really the Wii and PS3 being a tie in my book.

Exactly
in a senes, how can you compare a $250 consoles to others 2x or almost 3x as much....
I am sure if nintendo made a $400-$600 console it would be just as powerful and up there with the ps3 and 360, but that is not nintendo's goal, and i am glad of that, why i plan to buy a Wii :)

Way too early to tell at this point.
I'm partial to the 360 because it has the games I like most, but its really not fair to compare it against a handful of launch titles on the other systems.

Very true, i think the 360 has claimed it's spot and recognition already.
Maybe ask this question in 6 months + time.
From what I have read hardware wise the PS3 looks better on paper but in practicality is not as powerfull as its year older competitor. Ill be honest I do not own any of the consoles. MY opinion is based off of reading articles and playing a few Xbox 360 games. To soon to tell if that stuff about the PS3's hardware is true or not.

Xbox360 without a question!
When it really comes down to it it's all about the games, and 360 has the games that sell.
I mean having Halo license itself is more then enough which set the record sales in pretty much every category in existence and now newly released Gears of War, GTA4 coming next year and tons of other exclusive titles coming down the road.
PS3 and Wii just can't compete with that.
PS3 in many ways is like Xbox360 and they have some exclusive title like Metal Gear Solid, God of War, Resistance... that will keep them alive. But let's not kid anyone, $600 is allot of money but if you can afford it it's worth it just for the fact that it has Blu-Ray player which as a stand-alone device can't be found anywhere for that price.
Wii, LOL
I know that allot of you guys here love this console so I'll try to be gentle.
Nintendo made a very bold move by riding all of their hopes on a newly designed controller. Much like PS3 which all of their hopes depend on success of Blu-Ray player, Nintendo is in the same situation with the controller.
As a mature gamer Wii just doesn't appeal to me and to add, any of the people that I play with. I mean I would pick up and play it, but after I'm taking a brake from 360 or PC and even if you wont' admit it many of you guys here are doing the same thing.
Games have gone a long way since the era of Mario and Zelda and Nintendo thinks that they can still ride the wave.

soo...a mature gamer can only play mature games?
taking a break from the 360...i guess...if you call 8 months a break.
and a break from PC gaming? currently, what good titles are on the PC at the moment? FPS's...yeah, but they can get old after a while. (unless it has good online multiplayer ). Oblivion? pffft, over-rated in my opinion. Not much of a flight simulator fan. i LOVE RTS's, but alot of these new RTS games...have changed their style of play so much, i can't get into them.
i play Eve-online...thats about it. That, untill spore comes out.
so no, i'm not taking a break from PC or 360. maybe taking a break from FF12, to play the new Zelda. but thats about it.
and to your " wii, LOL " thing...yeah LOL. i was laughing my A** off last night with my G/F and friend while we were having a blast playing the Wii sports games. i was also LOL'ing in real life while playing bowling and tennis with my mom earlier today.
i guess your "LOL" comment was spot on, wasn't it?

I must Wii-ply, even though the PC is my favorite gaming system. I own a PS2, Xbox and gamecube. (all gotten via used, refurbished or garage sale) I have a lot of games, mostly leftovers from friends. (All teh games have horrible replay ability)
For the new systems, I'm voting for the Wii. Grated the 360 and the PS3 have Wii-ly good hardware, the Wii is something new. I'm like a fly to that shiny, shiny Wii-mote bug zapper. I like the idea of moving with the game.
So all next Wii-kend, I'll be playing on my Wii.

At 35 I consider myself a maturish gamer, and a nostalgic one at that, I think that the death match was defined by "Quake3" in 1999 yet I also was caught up in the hype and excitement and purchased "Quake4" however I do not play it at all now it simply has no interest for me even though it looks better graphically... likewise the PS2 and Xbox held little interest for me, so I never brought one... The wii looks new, interesting its a little bit different... its a brave attempt at something new, I wish Microsoft and Sony were brave enough to think this way.
in my opinion the winner is Nintendo, not because it has the best console or specification but because it alone has increased the size of the market by making people like me buy it, a non-console gamer who has no interest in a tradional console with the same games but next generation graphics interested in it.
Ive not played a xbox360 or PS3 and have no interest in doing such unlike the wii, and that alone suggests Nintendo has done something worth counting

Oh forgot to mention, I can almost guarantee by the end of next year I would have also obtained a ps3 and 360, each for about half the starting cost. (if not less) Especially in hawaii, ppl here don't ebay stuff because shipping is a pain in the butt.
Local commerce ftw.

I took time to read through your sum-up and I can say that I agree with you spot on.
 Cheers!
I must say I agree with all the people that say the 360 is the console to have if you must have one NOW.
And as for how you can compare a 250 dollar system to systems costing twice as much... I honestly don't think it would have cost much more to put a better graphics chip in that system. Particularly not with all these chip manufacturers trying to ditch their old Dx9 chips. Could've slapped a 7900 or 1900 in it and had it look better than it's looking now. And I don't think it would've effected the price much if Nintendo bought in bulk.
I think it was just a matter of time. But it would've been better if they waited til December in order to have more advantages.
But my choice of the 360 is based on the fact that it simply isn't wise to buy any game system when it first comes out. And Microsoft will hold its lead for at least the next six months.

I think it's pretty ridiculous that people are already putting the Wii in it's grave after it's barely been out 36 hours. I have no gripes with it, period. 2 of my best friends, my friend's gf, my friend's bro and my little bro stood in line, out in the freezing cold and became the first people in our town to get Wiis. And after playing it, I'd do it all over again. I'm a Nintendo fan and I always have been. I love the new controller, it's small and easy to use once you get used to it. The learning curve should be 15-20 minutes tops, it's a new idea and I think that was pretty damn brave of them to try. It opens up so many more possibilities for gaming.
Secondly, what's wrong to catering to new gamers or non-gamers? Not a thing. It helps you sell more consoles. Last I checked, over 600,000 Wii's had been sold, that number is probably up by now. That's not to say they've left their fans or hardcore gamers out in the cold, because they haven't.
Thirdly, sub-par graphics? Geez people there were only a few titles released with the thing! They haven't even begun to push the limit yet. Twilight Princess is blowing me away right now, so far it's beautiful, even for a GC port. The gameplay takes full advantage of the new controller and, like other Zelda games, it's just damn fun! I don't buy a gaming system to go "ooh omg pretty pretty pretty". People put way too much emphasis on that. If you want more pretty, I'm sure your PC wouldn't mind a new vid. card.
As for the PS3 and HaloBox 360, I've only demoed the 360 and wasn't convinced I needed it. There's where they failed right there. I KNEW I needed a Wii when I started hearing more and more about it, and not just because it's by Nintendo.
The PS3 is far too expensive for a video game console. Developers are hating the development platform, Sony failed to deliver as many as they said they would and a gaming console doesn't need any of that Blu-Ray crap. I don't buy a system to watch movies on it, I buy one to play games. Not to mention I've heard bad things about Blu-Ray and already people are pulling their support for it away. I didn't buy a PS2 and I faired very well. I have over 55 GC games and loved the time I spent playing them and will continue to play them on my Wii. Why's that? Because it's 100% backwards compatible. Sony and M$ can't top that.
Also, how often do you hear about Nintendo's systems catching on fire or not working out of the box? I think it's safe to assume almost never. It's just plain ridiculous that a gaming console WOULD catch on fire! The GC I've had for about 5 years has gotten to where it doesn't read the discs as well, we called Nintendo about it and they offered to replace the console itself. 5 years later they wanted to replace it for us! I'd bet Microsoft and Sony wouldn't be as understanding! That's another thing they have going for them, they care about their customers and aren't just out to turn a profit.
Bottom line, maybe I'm biased towards Nintendo, but I also try to stay open to new ideas. When I was younger, I had an NES, I got the SNES, I got a Genesis, the N64, the PS1, then the GC, and now the Wii. As far as handhelds go, I had a GB, GBC, GBA and I have a DS. I played my friend's GameGear back in the day, but I never wanted one. As for the PSP, it ultimately failed at grabbing my attention too. I just haven't been convinced I need anything else and until I am, I'll buy the next Nintendo system too.
/end rant :)

Dont rush to judgement when you have never seen one much less actually played on one.
Before you decide its not worth your while come by my house or vice-versa and actually see what the Wii is like before you say it sucks. (Because it doesnt)
One thing you are correct is this, the Wii is not a computer or a sytem designed for eye candy. Thats not why I bought it. If i wanted eyecandy Ill just go into the other room and fire up the computer. The fact that you are comparing its worth based on that proves to me that you dont understand Nintendo's target market.
Like I said, before you guys rule the Wii out go sit down and actually try one... you'll be amazed.
On a side note if I wanted a high-powered console Id get a 360 no question about it. RedDragon you know my sense of value and style, we had a similar conversation about the X-Fi almost a year ago. After you told us it sucked I brought it by your house and you wound up buying one later that night... lol

It's going to be a two horse race between the 360 and the Wii. The 360 has the advantage now because it has been out for a year, all the mediacenter functions and the quickly growing X-box Live content. I think the Wii will sell more than the 360 did in the same timeframe (last Christmas vs this Christmas). When the initial hype is over, the PS3 mania will die down and people will not buy it at its' price point. Right now it's the new and rare thing so it's like a diamond, but when they become as common as zirconium then people are not going to pay diamond prices for something that is not rare. By that time, all the Blue-Ray drives giving "dirty disc" errors or not loading at all should be beginning to rear its' ugly head.

The Wii is unique and that makes it stand out from the crowd. The Wii will get people interested and be more interactive. Also, people are going to hate me for saying this but the Wii has a broader appeal to people younger and older than the target gamer demographic. While the 360 and PS3 are going to be filled with a lot of bloody and violent games, the Wii will have a lot more games rate E or YA12 or whatever it is than rated M. Believe it or not, I was in two different game stores this weekend and there were a LOT of parents who wouldn't let their kids (even up to age 14 or so) but ANY game that was rated M.

Ok, back on topic, I haven't even seen the PS3 in action besides trailers and a few videos so I'm not going to make an opinion on it.
I've had my 360 for the past year. its fun but to me its still really nothing more than an updated XBox. GoW rocks though.
The Wii I have somewhat more interests to because of the wiimote thing. I watched a few friends playing the Wii sports and its really quite innovative.
I figure both sony and MS will bring out thier own little type of Wiimote in the future. So lets say heres to another 5 years of next gen console wars

I was very interested in Red Steel until I saw a review.
Plus not to mention that I have yet to see a game that supports online play
Since I spend 98% of my time on Xbox Live playing in matches and such, Wii doesn't spark my interest anymore. And what I meant by mature games is that I want something else beside eating mushrooms and such. Like Resident Evil series on GC. Those games were awesome and are the reason why I got the console and sold it shortly after simply cause there weren't any other games and I think that this will be the same problem with Wii.

PS3 Exclusive Titles > Chuck Norris
gota have my final fantasy no matter what the costs...
I don't like any of the systems so far. None of them have enough decent games to justify buying at this point. The 360 has a few, but you can pretty much play all the good ones (COD series, Oblivion, FEAR) on PC with the exception of Gears of War. PS3 might be worth it down the line, with the BD and some killer titles on the way next year, but right now it has a weak lineup. Remains to be seen how good Wii is as it still has a limited library.
Sticking to PC for now and still playing games on the old PS2.

You forget Saint's Row. That is totally kick ass and a 360 exclusive. Another killer app, Forza 2 is coming in Feb.
Saints row i can live without. 3 GTA titles later and I'm pretty much burned out on that genre of game.

No offense, but this is a pretty stupid thread.
First of all, how can we declare a "winner" when two consoles are less than a week old? Personally, I don't care who "wins" or "loses" - I just want good games.
There are two types of people in the world: one group will hop on every forum imaginable to debate the merits of one console over the other; the other group will just play the damn games.

How funny will it be if/when Blu-ray loses to HD-DVD and becomes Betamax V2? How can you justify the purchase of a $600 steel frame beast that weights approx. 10 lbs ( I've held them in their boxes, they are that heavy) and lays a dead media format?

One of the best posts in recent times imo, thanks.
I'm not really that big on consoles anymore as I do most of my gaming on the computer. However, I still get around to the consoles. I would have to pick the Xbox 360 out of the three mainly because of Halo. I've played it since it first came out and can't get enough of it. Although I dont own any of these new systems I want to pick up a 360 but have to get the cash first. Nothing that the PS3 has really appeals to me and same with the Wii. However the Wii does have Zelda which should be pretty epic.

I bought the Wii and so far I love it, it is a different experience of gaming compared to the computer, xbox 360, or any other regular console. My girlfriend even likes the thing and the only other videogames she likes is mario kart for snes, mario tennis for N64, and Guitar Hero I & II for ps2. So if she likes it, it usually means that it's a good.

on the other hand, i have great faith in the wii. i think the wii is in its own totally seperate catagory. and i think it will do very well for nintendo. and in terms of whitch company makes the most money off there console i think ninty will win. but in terms of user base and "coolest" most advertised console, i think its gonna be a 2 horse race between microsoft and sony.

this may be silly, but my biggest issue with this debate boils down to one thing. Well two really if you consider the fact that "IMO" you can't compare nintendo systems to xbox and PSx.
The last attempt at nintendo being a revolutionary graphics system was N64, that has morphed into something else...a party toy. If you are going to be going to college you will see what i mean, if you have recently left you know what i mean. Try turning mario cart into a drinking game...that is fun.
My point is this, Wii has been marketed more of a social "toy" rather then a vidoe game system. Thats my opinion at least. I've been trying to convince my roomates into splitting the cost of a Wii because i think it would be fun.
I'd much rather have an xbox or PS3 but i see that as a more personal investment.
Which brings me to my initial point. The controller. The playstation controller is so logical that it has become the standard for even computers. For the most part it has not changed since the PS1. They added analog controllers (brilliant) and now the R/L2 buttons are a little different. Why does microsoft feel they need to mess with this design, just concede the fact that Sony got it right and move on. :p
I'm an example of why the graph above looks why it does. Sony has the edge on the market over the long haul, and it will pay off.

I agree with the controller issue except for two points: 1. Most people are saying the PS3 controller feels flimsy, miss the rumble and HATE the bottom L2 and R2 buttons on it. 2. The 360 controller reminds me a bit of the Dreamcast controller ad I loved it just as much as I did the PS1/2 controllers.
Sony does not have the "edge" on the market. They held the edge in the last gen. Whenever there is a new generation of machines released, EVERYBODY starts back at square one.

I've played with it in target for about 20 mins
I didn't notice a flimsy feel to it, i will admit that the xbox controllers feel a bit more rock like, and i like their bulk...it's more an issue of layout. The 360 layout is vastly better then the original one. That said, the change is a morph towards the sony layout...shocking.
At any rate, the new r2 and l2 buttons felt pretty odd in my hands, i'm skeptical about it but i like the idea of giving more control here...i'm just not sure it is very comfy. Time will tell ehh? I didn't like the feel of analog joysticks either.

Ya I played the PS3 the day prior to it coming out at Target as well. Everyone was outside and decided to check inside, not a line at all. It has nice but couldn't give a good wieght feel on it or really do much with the controller since it was very securly hooked to the station.

I got my first chance to play the Wii for an extended period of time two days ago, and was thoroughly impressed! Now my best friend just bought an Xbox 360 with Gears of War and all I felt was disappointment! After using the Wii controller the 360 feels ancient, sure the graphics are pretty, but there is practically zero fun factor involved. With the Wii I was cracking up at the antics that occurred in every game, but with Gears of War co-op I felt like I was playing Halo all over again-and I was bored to death with it. Playing a shooter with a console controller is just painful. The only gripe I have with the Wii is the jaggies all over the screen, but with the 360 everything feels unoriginal.
Leave the PC games on the PC, already. Microsoft.

/\Why leave the games on the PC when they can make so much more money putting them in the living room? Anyway I personally like Sonys offering this time around, but the 360 also gets me going. The Wii I have played and in all honesty seemed more like a gimmick item then a long term gaming machine. For example I love to grab some food/coke lay on the couch and play some games while I'm all relaxed. The Wii was very fun but I just don't see myself doing that with a Wii mote. As for the PS3 controller, it feels much better when not connected to a stand and the vibration function was removed because the controller is motion sensitive and they are trying to reduce weight. Anyway I guess it's different strokes for different fokes. Personally I like my graphics and feel they greatly help game play and I also like my tried and true controller. If you like a little more action in you games then the Wii is probably the one to get.
