This has been going on for nearly a year now. They stop taking customers then start taking them again...on and on.

They filed for Chapter 13 this summer, I believe, which is protection from creditors.

It's been a downward spiral for Excite@Home for a long time and really don't know when the "real" thing is going to happen.

I had their service when I lived in KY and thought it was great...could definately see how they lose money though. I practically got half my service free and also got my $275 cable modem for free simply by telling them I wasn't renting it...they assumed I paid in full for it and stopped billing me. They were very unorganized but my service was always good.

I still want to know, if anyone can help, am I OK? I have ATT@home. I shouldn't be affected, right?

If I read your intentions you're already with AT&T right? You'll probably have some problems as the new customers are integrated into the system, I think we'll all be feeling the pain, even those with dial up, just because the computer on the other end of your surfing may be on an @home system. Other than that... ???? I'm just guessing here, sorry that's not anymore concrete.

DEATH TO AT&t BROADBAND!

Here's what I know of the whole deal: most AT&T Broadband customers will be affected to some extent, BUT:
if you were originally with Mediaone you should have few problems- possibly less bandwidth for a while.
If you were an AT&T@Home customer to start with, you will have problems varying from low bandwidth to no connection for a short period.

Most of AT&T service has been through Excite's network- they have been building their own infrastructure but MOST of it is not in place so they are making deals and switching connections around. If you can connect now you should be mostly ok.

I was with Mediaone and I'm still connected, although my speed seems to be closer to 56k than cable!

Mine's out, I went from 2000/3000k download with AT&T@HOME before Friday to under 40k download now with an AOL dialup connection.

Try sharing this across a LAN.
