a single 7900 gt at stock clockings would beat that in sli.

i would get one or two cheap 7900 gt's or 7900 gs's

WOW

i did answer my question. i said a single 7900 card would be it in sli so i thing your idea of getting an other 7600 gs is dumb. unless if your on a low budget.

well, with the cost of these cards right now compared to a 7900 anything, its not really dumb, since you have already invested into that card. I have that same card and ive been pretty happy with it. but buying another one and running sli your fps wont really jump too much untill you enable AA, turn up the resolution and of course it will depend on the game.

Its a toughy call though. Personally, id sell off your 7600 and pick up a 7900gs. thats what im doing as we speak since i baught mine for like $20 more than my 7600GS was when it came out. Just happend to have a friend who wanted the card and had somthing i wanted =D
if you had a reference clocked gs it would be a lot easier for you to find a matched card for cheap, but the xfx's are pretty much the best here, factory oc'd to 500 mhz. I think two of them would be good in sli, if you could get one for under $100.

To start off with, it was his question, and it is definitively not a dumb idea if he has a SLI motherboard, one card, and wants more performance.

SLi'ing 2 low end cards is lame.......

AVA is f***ing amazing by the way. But im kinda over Toms over zealous attitude about his new band. Im listening to Marks new album now.

Running two 7600gs's in SLI is not that dumb, especially if it's those passive cooling versions.
Passively Cooled SLI is simply neat :) -- great for a silent HTPC

Some have mentioned that a 7900 would perform just as well if not better, so it does depend on your Budget.

But I feel for a cheap increase of performance, could be the way to go.

Performance increase would depend on monitor and resolution. If you've about maxxed out the single slot, starting to see frame lag, can't quite dial it up like you wish, then i guarrantee youll see an increase in performance. I'm running 7800GTXoc's in SLi and I've yet to strain 'em, so i'm not looking for an upgrade yet, but I won't pull one of 'em either. When I was planning thois build, I was told all the same stuff, blah, blah, blah, but I'm glad I chose the path i did.
You'll see the difference if you're running at a high resolution and all the eye candy turned up. guaranteed!;)

I've been looking into it and I would say that when SLI works well you'll be performing worse than a 7900GS. Its definitely a chunk less but not a significant margin. It may perform 85% of the higher end card but at half the cost; however, SLI doesn't always improve the performance, and not always in the same kind of way a better card does.

I'm a college student and do not have a ton of money so i'm getting 2 of them for a pretty good deal. If you can't get 2 of them for the same price or less than a 7600GT, you might want to consider the 7600GT or 7900GS.

I was running 2 7800 GTs before this 7900GT and I get higher 3dmark scores with the 7900. Plus I don't have the hassle of dealing with SLI and I still have dual monitor support. One hidden cost is the PSU if you don't have a very powerful one. While a 450 Watt supply will power a 7900 GT just fine, it may not power 2 7600's just fine. I would recommend the 7600 SLI only if you have a pretty good PSU already and you're really scraping together money to get the second 7600. You can always buy a new card (a 7800GTX or a 7900GT/GTO) and sell off the 7600 and the upgrade will be about the same cost and you'll get at least comparable performance.
