what's the proper way to clean install windows 2000 professional? when i use a boot disk to format c: and run setup i have to convert fat32 to ntfs and it thinks windows is installed and i get a dual boot menu. but if i leave c: ntfs then it doesn't install to c: but to d: which is fat32. is there a way to get around this? thanks

Having trouble following you. Are you dual booting?

If not just use the CD or startup disks to start the installation procedure, when it comes to the partition manager delete all partitions and then create a primary partition you want to install Win2K on. Choose that one to place you system files on and then format it using NTFS.

If you have more than one disk make sure you delete any partitions on it as well (unless data is stored there). You can format it later after you've installed Win2K by using the Disk Administrator.

follow the menu like he says. make sure you read everything. i did not the first time and ended up with a duel boot setup. it gives you the option of deleting the partition. after that install it. win2k will format for you. use ntfs. if you are not going to duel boot or use any legacy software its worth it. with ntfs you get alot of security options. got my mcp test in the morning for it. wish me luck!
