I was checking out the air movement in my case today and found some interesting results.

I have an intake fan at the front of my case, an out fan at the back of the case, a flop 38 with delta fan on cpu, fan on north bridge and the power supply fan.

Any way I was in my case today moving around cables and such trying to drop cpu temp and I found that with both sides of my case open my CPU temps dropped 5C. (no big surprize)

However the interesting thing was with the case open my motherboard temps went up 5C.

My guess would be that with the case closed you were getting better air circulation inside the case so the warm air from the cpu hsf wasn't hitting the mobo temp sensor. With the case off, you are getting cooler air into the hsf, but the warm air from the hsf is hitting the mobo sensor more now.

Just a guess ;)

I would agree - you have more ''stagnant'' air sitting on your mobo - BUT you have MORE air available to the heat sink.... I have similar results with my setup - but over all I would think the mobo temps you want to be cooler... the CPU was designed with the tought of being hot in mind - the mobo prolly not as much....
