do the drives perform different when installed on the same channel or on separated ones?
for ex, i have my hd as the primary master and the cd-rom as the secondary slave, would i get any difference if installing both on the same channel?
the motherboard manual recommends not to install ultradma 66/100 devices to the second ide connector (where my cd-rom is), is it possible im losing performance this way?
thanks a lot.

You want your HD and cd-rom on separate channels!

Reason:
You are not always ONLY using your cd-rom to transfer music or files to you HD and vice-versa a lot of time you might be playing music on your cd-rom and surfing the web or playing a game or something - and by keeping them separate it actually will give you better performance from your cpu and not ''bottleneck'' the data flow becuase it has two separate lanes to drive down....
