I am thinking of upgrading to xp on my win2k machine,....I installed sp1 , but it caused more problems than it was supposed to solve so I uninstalled it(the service pack)...is sp3 worth the effort? or should I go for XP?
My gaming rig (the one in my sig) is still with win98se, and I have no reason to go higher with it.
My thinking on the w2k machine is if it ain't broke don't fix it... but I'm getting tired of win2k loosing the modem every two weeks or so..plus a few other quirks that right now I can't remember?
I respect Y'alls opinions so give it yer best shot..whaddya think?
I'm in a quandry.
Thanks in advance

XP is, imo, the best windows OS ever! I find it even more stable than 2000, yet everything runs on it like 98. If you move to XP just do a clean install, upgrade and you are asking for trouble. I think you will love it.

no not everything runs on it like it does on win98se. Some of the games dont work and some of the software will not work. like adaptec cd creator 4 or some older stuff. personaly i dont like xp, i ran it for like a week and then switched back to win98se and hoping to get win2000 pro

In my own experience Win 2K spanks XP as far as speed. Stability is identicle for me. I'd consider going back to XP once I get some more ram and maybe a faster CPU. It has a lot of nice features Win 2k does'nt have. Other then that I choose Win 2K with SP2 over XP any day.

Just my opinion.

Windows 2000 Professional w/ SP2 and all the pre-SP3 patches over XP any day of the whole damn week. I really don't need Microsoft looking at what hardware I have installed/Software/My bank account balance, tyvm.

Thanks for all the replies...I think I will go for the service pack route...it seems to be the less costly of all the choices.
THanks again , and I think I'm off to MS to d'l' an SP.
Cheers,

XP PRO is your choice..............don't bother with SP for w2k
