Could anyone tell me the symtoms of having a too low power psu?

Hi dudes, im miffed about my system stability, i get seemingly random lockups and crashes (mostly to desktop) I recently got a Xp1600+ and my psu is no longer certified with that processor accoring to amd, does anyone know exactly what happens when your psu is too low, and can just unplugging stuff like CD drives test to see if this is causing problems?

Oh yeah thought its worth mentioning, my desktop and stuff like that it rock solid, only games (D3D) do the crashing, this is what i find somewhat curious if it was a PSU thing

Mine acted kind of like that before I got my second Psu. I had a ton of things running off of it, but It would just lockup, or hang. And yes, if you unplug a few drives and it seems to be resolved, you Psu would most likely be the problem.

ive had the same issue...random reboots and lockups...unpluging things to see if the issue is resolved is how i figured it out

well you have two possiblilites because if it only happenes while palying games, then its probobly a cpu overheat. What are your temps? or then again it could be a psu but 300watts should be enough.

go into you bios and look at the 5v line, it really shouldn't be below 4.9 because if it is, then it's power. otherwise, it's probably temps like Bmxpunk86pl said.

When my PSU was dying i had random shutdowns, i would just die and not come back till i unpluged it and pluged it back in. What you have may be a power problem, but it could be other things aswell. Is your video card overclocked. I have had exit to desktop problems when i push it to far.

Alos, 4.9 is not to low. Mine is at 4.83 right now and its fine.
