The cheapest ones are Maxtors, but in my informed opinion they are very unrelaible and not worth it. I think Seagates and Fujitsu are the most relaible. Western Digital are more reliable than Maxtor (everything is) and may be cheaper than Seagate.
You might want to check out http://www.pricewatch.com and see what is for sale. If you find one you like look up the website on http://www.resellerratings.com before you buy.

Newegg.com has ibm 40 gig 60gxp for 97.00 last I looked. It is an oem so you have to download IBM's formatting and diagnostic programs but overall painless. Hope this helps.

http://www.compusaveinc.net/ I bought a seagate Barracuda IV 20 gig 7200 Rpm H.D. from them for 89.95 about a month ago it was on special.I have not bought anything from their website I drove down to their store, they seem like a good outfit. Everything I bought worked great so I couldn't tell you how they are on returns.

20GB IBM 60GXP iwas $75 for OEM. Got one a few weeks ago. Think it rose to about $79 now though.

$97 for the 40GB is a better deal for the money though.

newegg has some good deals on drives all around. I have only had one drive ever go bad on me(an IBM 16 gig) but I got a year and a half out of her(I also have an 8gig IBM going on something like 3 years now). My Maxtor thirty has been good, I have a WD thirty that is excellent as well. IBM, WD, and Seagate are probably the three top brands.

I cast my vote for the 40 gig IBM 60GXP too. I have two of them now, quiet, fast, and dependable.

I'm planning on going with 2 IBM 60GXP 40GB's for my RAID-0 configuration. I'm most impressed with the QUIETNESS of the drives. I'm also buying a Glaciator HSF setup. I like QUIET.

Go with the IBM.. it works very well... although I've heard those IBM drives require lots of PSU power..

dont get IBM HDD, I dont know why ppl recommend it, considering they fail a lot.

I have seen ppl's 60GB, 75GB IBM HDD fail and thats after atleast 3 times exchanges. (First drive fails after a month, IBM replaces it, fails again, replaces it again, fails, and really these are from lots of differet ppl, and they dont exactly have have probs with their PSU or anything or overclock that can kill the HDD.)

I mean, there is even a class action lawsuit against IBM for their HDD failing.

Trust me, even if IBM is cheap, whats the use of buying one if it fails on you? You lose EVERYTHING, to heck with the replacement, its not worth the hassle of getting a new one evertime.

I'm sure lots of ppl with IBM HDD will disagree, but in MY OPINION, get something else BESIDES IBM.

The final choice is as always up to you

Exiler has a point that there have been some problems in the past with IBM's 75GXP series harddrives, but the newer 60GXP series harddrives have fixed the bugs and are great. I haven't heard of any significant problems with the new breed of IBM drives, in fact they have a brand new 120GXP series out that is supposed to be higher capacity. plus even better and faster. Another big advantage is that IBM drives are very overclocking friendly.
