Hey everyone. Haven't been around in awhile. DAOC taking up my time now.

Anyways I chipped my 1.4 Athlon. :( It worked for awhile and now when i replaced my broken motherboard it wont' even boot up. Powers up no video no nothing. Went through the drill of all the troubleshooting and no go.. Assuming its a dead now.

I have an Abit KG7RAID. My question is how good are the Athlon XP 1600??? Are they the same? Better? Will it be compatible with my board? Could someone give me a basic rundown? What about overclocking? Are they locked?

Welcome back. You should check with PAUL (http://www.viahardware.com/faq/kg7kr7/kg7kr7faq.htm) for the latest updates on your MoBo. I believe a BIOS update will be needed to run the XP. Sorry to hear about the dead bird but it's a good excuse to upgrade.

That is the odd thing about cracking chips.

They will work until you touch that HSF, then you disturb them and they stop working.

That is how my first 1.4 Ghz athlon went. I bought a replacement just after a HUGE price gouge and i got it for $99 compared to like $159 a few days earlier.

Dont touch your chipped cores, my friends! You may want to reseat your HS/F to try to lower your temps, but dont do it, man!

I went all the way up to 1800+ with my kg7 raid and it worked fine...no extra work needed, just plug it in, clear CMOS and load the performance defaults plus your custom settings and go.

Yeah the xp is locked but it's easy to unlock.
