Southern Vermont, in Windsor County, has had this package for a while, since 2009.
(At 30 Mb down or close to that and usually 4 Mb or a little higher for the upload, sometimes 6!)

Even up in the part of Springfield that's next to the boonies, don't have trouble getting that, haha.

In your case, using other browsers may add +4 ms.

With the ISP I have, that's what I get and IIRC, does the same type of thing with other PCs that I tested.

I'm trying to figure the browser ping tests and wondering if anyone at Speedtest knows about this.

I became worried after discovering that the ping test is always higher when I go back to another browser!

And Iron (probably Chromium itself) causes Speedtest to display strange results, the download speed meter bobs up and down like crazy and often has a higher ping than most browsers.

I don't think the ping test is flawed to be honest. I play COD:BO's and my Ping to the server from NYC (Me) to The Server in NJ is 11-17MS

Yeah, though I'm usually bottlenecked by the other end. I imagine that by downloading from several sources I could get quite a bit more then that.

Try the 200meg test. In the drop down below the choices. I think you can also pick between TX or DC.
I find it's closer to real world usage. Flash tests while good, are not all that accurate. Even more so for faster lines. Which that site takes into account. Plus there is a test module which will go at it more than once. For how many times you set it to do.

Didn't work out too well, but it might have something to do with me being on the eastern side of Europe.

But real world download results the max speed I have gotten from a single host is about 40MB/s and downloading from multiple places at the same time seems to increase the speed pretty linearly. Unfortunately I can't think of many places that will really give speeds like that...

But expanding on that previous screenshot I added another ubuntu download from another host at the same time, I expect adding a third download would increase throughput in a similar way:

Actually, hard drive technology has been pretty much the same through out its entire life... Spinning platters. The size may have been doubled every year, along with the platter density, which is a bigger change than size...

Still, it's better than the speeds I was getting with Uverse, and I don't have to worry about a cap (comcast business / residential location).
The download speed without powerboost is ~14.50mbit, so that's a bit more than what I'm paying for at least.

I don't use the TV part of TWC. I have the 30/5.

Of course your mileage may vary... I happened to of had my bill on my desk. *
*Road Runner Standard with Powerboost (NEO 10/1) = $46.95
[Past base Standard]

Turbo (16/1) - $9.95
*Road Runner Extreme (30/5) = $19.95 (I have this, and think it is the better value over Wideband. I pay about 70 clams for this..)
Road Runner Wideband (50/5) = $39.95 (Not sure on this, could be $29.95. If you get this on top of Standard. It costs like a hundred bucks each month. Without TV or special)
For Extreme and Wideband You need a truck roll and a DOCSIS3 modem. You can use your own compatible modem, or have them bring you one. Since they do not charge rent for using it.. But you can't get around the first truck roll. Expect to negotiate down the install charges.. Before you agree to the truck roll.

I believe we use to have TRC for a few months, but it the tv was crap I believe (may have just been us too). Now since we have directv, it is not bundled, which cost another $10 with buckeye, etc. But I went to their site, I will have to look into it...

You could also check out Wide Open West, I know they are expanding through Ohio (in multiple places) and are pretty big in Columbus.

Might be speed boost but i get 5-6 Meg/sec downloads all the time. It's really nice :) Higher speed plan with my cable package at a cheaper price, it'win win.
That's awesome

EDIT: well, last week I downloaded a 10GB game through steam, and got a steady 3MB/s for the whole download which is quite a bit over what I pay for. Hardly ever stays that fast though :(

I have some relatives that have WoW... (In Illinois though).
Seems like good solid connection to me.

This is a joke to me... My speed is 5/1... and cost me $45/ month. I live in Ohio, about 20 min from toledo, you would think there would be better plans or FiOs or something. :bang head

Hello from Northwest Ohio. I'm out by the airport!

I use RR(30/1) When we get into a new house I'm getting 50/5 unless something is here that's better.

how is it that internet speed is the only thing in the computer world that does not double its speed every year(the same way CPU speed/power and harddrive size has)

I don't think cpu speed or hard drives have done that every year for the past few years either though. :-/

Still, it is interesting. Every year computers get faster and cheaper, yet our internet prices and data plans are the same as they were. Granted ISPs(and their sources) probably aren't upgrading their hardware every year, I wouldn't be surprised if these guys were doing way better over time than a lot of other businesses.

Like you said, granted they do not upgrade every year, but you would think maybe double every 3-5 years, or the price lowered w/ new plans offered.

Moore would not be happy with current ISPs...

Wow!

I have Extreme internet. As I showed above.. 30/5 and steady seeding Overclockix. Plus the unlimited phone. $91.94, no specials - Taxes included.

BTW, don't let TWC trick you. The phone is actually VOIP. Hence the modem for the IP. If you have not yet. Check out the VOIP features in your subscriber account CP (My Home Phone/Voice Zone.)

We have the Triple Play bundle with everything it's around $180-ish after taxes etc.

I could probably look for a price for just the internet. I think without the bundle that internet price is somewhere around $200.

<3 FiOS btw

I really could do with more upload speed, apparently its getting upped to 10mbs in my area in July .

My plan says 100mbs download, 95 is pretty close; its 9pm on a Saturday here so I plan to redo the test after peak times to see how close it gets.

Just added a new TP-Link WDN4800 N adapter to replace the old atheros G model. Seems to have made a difference. Comcast business downstream is 2x (sustained) higher than what I'm paying for now:

What? I used to get 20MBPS with my old modem, but for some reason upgrading to the best consumer modem in the whole world(Motorola SurfBoard Extreme SB6121), gigabit ethernet, DOCSIS 3.0, combined with my trusty Linksys WRT54GL(the most popular and hackable router ever made), lowered my down to 10MBPS... noticeable performance drop... but still, with TWC in my area, they don't "Officially" support any cable modems other than a few ridiculously outdated DOCSIS 1.0 ones..
I see ppl with 10MBPS down here, and people say that that's GOOD? Around here, I have the cheapo internet(pay $50/mo for 20MBPS down and 1 up), TWC sells 70MBPS down, 30 up...
