Most people I know with XP's here, and at overclockers.co.uk, use WinXP with no problems at all........

For what it's worth.

Considering that WIN XP is based on the NT kernel, and is in reality just a revised version of WIN 2K. I would think that unless you have a need for the multimedia revisions, then WIN 2K still has a lot to offer. Most of us here at "OVERCLOCKERS.COM", spend a lot of time tweaking our systems, because of this, I would think that there could be a problem once the "X" number of substantial changes have been made to your system. It is not unusual for us to swap out a video card or a NIC just to gain another MHZ or two out of the FSB. To the casual user, loading a new program is a major undertaking, to a lot of us "fdisk" is a common command.

Another potential problem with WIN XP is the lack of support for some popular hardware, 3DFX in particular.

As far as the additional multimedia capabilities of WIN XP, from what I understand, includes applications that are easily obtained from third party software. The third party software generally has more advanced features and is something that most of us would be obtaining anyway.

The proven stability of WIN 2K, without the potential problems of product activation, makes this an easy choice for my Windows platform for the foreseeable future.

i'd stay with 2k pro, afterall, xp is around 90% 2k. however, if you like the look of xp and the wierd software support (i.e. norton 2k1:mad: ) go with xp

win2k all the way
proven stability and compatibility

i installed winXP a few days back
ended up with general protection faults and program crashes
also software like norton AV 2001 wont work

i am now back on win2k and am not going to change for a long time

Both are nice and stable OS's for me. But I choose Win 2K Pro because it's faster for me. I may throw win XP back in once I get some more ram.
