Is it possible to have multiple wireless networks from the same router?

From a conventional consumer wireless router I'm going to go ahead and say no. Why do you want multiple wireless networks?

you dont always need to have seperate networks, you can use isolation mode if you dont want the clients to be able to see each other

Well I dont really NEED mulitple wirelessness, but My network is WPA and my Nintendo DS only accepts WEP or unsecure. Im wondering if the Wii is going to be the same way. I guess I could always change it to WEP.

So basically you are looking at if it is possible to do a WPA network for your LAN, and a WEP network that just connects to the internet for console games?

I know some of the business class Linksys products support wireless VLANs which will seperate traffic like that.

Or, Would I just be better off just buying another netgear router. I HATE Linksys

no you are better off just turning on MAC ADDRESS CONTROL (on netgear its called access control), hiding your SSID and turning off the encryption

unless someone has the right mac address on their network adaptor they wont be able to connect regardless

JOHNY CLOSE YOUR EYES... ima have to beat this guy for saying he hats Linksys....

WHAT are you smoking... you must not have one of the good linksys routers like the Linux versions of the WRT54G (L)

LOL just playing man... why not just switch over to all WEP?

I had 3 different WRT54G's and I would have to restart every one at least once a day. I have been running my Netgear one for over a year now, and aside from power outages, It has never been reset. I LOVE IT. Anyways, I had my friend set up my wireless network. He is now stationed in Dover, and I have NOT A ****ING CLUE how to set this **** up. Thats why, man

Thats all I have to say about that

Netgear stuff is crap. The only reason I have one on my network is because I need wireless for my sister, and it was only $17 on woot. But it can't handle ANY high traffic. No torrents or large data transfers on it what so ever. I just have it set up as an AP/switch right now.

But to do what you want, you need a 2nd AP.

thats your problem right there..

home routers are not designed for that, linksys is QUALITY hardware.

netgear is complete crap, i have a netgear at home that the folks use and a wrt54g here at school.

wrt wins the contest hands down..

basically you can't blame this on your internet surfing habits, if your going to download torrents and complain about it use a linux based router

whoa. slow your roll. Turning off encryption isn't good advice. MAC filtering has flaws and MAC addresses can be discovered with packet sniffers and then spoofed. MAC filtering is a good thing but it is not the be all end all of security. Turning off encryption is bad I'll just leave it at that.

The same can be said for WEP as whats in your quote. WEP keys are not strong, not useless, but no better than MAC control.

i didnt say filtering was the be all and end all

sorry i should have read above, the DS does accept wep i thought it said it didnt accept any encryption... well use wep and mac address control

but for this situation, the most security he can have is to hide the SSID, MAC control and a WEP key.

netgear is not crap and neither is linksys. both brands have models/versions which are total turkeys and have some fantastic products too.

i have had good netgear stuff and good linksys stuff, i've also had bad of both.

people saying netgear are 'total crap' have not used a wide range of their products. i have had some very good access points, routers and managed switches

Im not complaining about my Netgear router, I had nothing but Problems with the WRT54G's that I had. I have yet to have a single issue with my Netgear router. Anyways I just decided to switch to WEP
